The Senate on Wednesday ratified an international treaty that mandates nations to phase out hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) to protect the earth’s ozone layer, which will impose new standards that will raise the costs of air conditioning and refrigeration.
A group of 50 Senate Democrats and 19 Republicans voted to pass the Kigali Amendment to the 1987 United Nations (UN) Montreal Protocol. The amendment, which 27 Republicans voted to oppose, will limit the production and use of HFCs, man-made chemicals that are primarily used for cooling and refrigeration, by 85% over 15 years, which could substantially increase consumer and business costs in related industries.

There are YouTube videos that tell almost the exact same thing.
The other issue around here is that the independent appliance dealers will only service the machines that they sold. So, IF you buy your next appliance from one of the Big Box stores, you may have a problem getting someone to work on it in the future.
In the past many people used to buy major appliances from Sears. They actually had service people too. I have a nine year old Kenmore French door fridge with the freezer on the bottom. Ice maker inside the freezer, not through the door. It is made by Whirlpool.
Didn’t hurt me a bit. Thanks for your concern, though.
Is there still an Arkla/Servel a/c unit available?
I did that for R-22. If you look on eBay, there are some outfits in Texas that will sell to you as long as you send them an email that you’re a “qualified” servicer.
I knew someone that had one!...................
They’re obviously too stupid to realize that, in their southern states, air conditioning is MANDATORY.
I have an unopened 30lb cylinder of R12 in my basement.
...16 year old dryer ...

I have an electric Speed Queen dryer, maybe about 12 years old. I used it for 9 years to make a felted wool product and beat it up daily.
It is still here, still works. Had to change the plug when we moved, but otherwise, it is fine & functional.
Rugged machine.
19 REPUBLICANS SPIT, SPIT, SPIT!! I have absolutely had it with these BASTARDS!!! They could NOT even build the wall for Trump!! I am so damned angry right now I can’t even speak!!!
I have a refridgerator in my office that was bought in 1968, it is the coldest and best running appliance I have experienced since the early 70’s.
It’s a foolish, anti-US treaty, and GOP senators should be ashamed, but it’s not unconstitutional (Article II, Section 2, Clause 2) with 2/3 of the senate voting for it. I think it would another 2/3 vote to amend or terminate it.
Why don’t the industry go back to using AMMONIA systems?...........................
Beat me to it.
Senators ashamed. Did you really say that? 😂✌
Did they say shoulda-woulda-coulda in the Sopranos?
LOL!
Paulie 'Walnuts' Gualtieri: Yeah and I shoulda f***ed Dale Evans but I didn't.
LOL
Ammonia has the evil Nitrogen in it.
And you know we need to rid the atmosphere of Nitrogen.
A “treaty” (made by POTUS w/ Congressional consent) and legislation (a US law made and passed by Congress) are distinctly different.
A “treaty” is an international agreement between the US and another country. The Constitution distinguishes “The Laws of the United States” and “Treaties” (US Const., Art. VI, Cl. 2).
A (valid) US Law is an internal regulation pursuant to fulfilling the Constitution.
By constitutional law, POTUS, the Executive Branch, cannot make US law - only Congress the Legislative Branch may make US law and ONLY if the law conforms to the Constitution as written and originally understood and intended.
So, whatever U.S. laws come pursuant to their “treaty” must comply with the Constitution (Id.). Otherwise these and ANY US law that violates the Constitution is null and void, unenforceable, and must be repealed.
