A spokesperson for Starbucks says they will close their popular Canal Street location after nine years due to safety and security concerns.
Several other Starbucks locations will remain open in New Orleans and neighboring Canal Street business owners say they have no intention of joining the national chain in evacuating the area.
On Oct. 3, the coffee shop will close its doors for good.
Without providing details on specific incidents, Starbucks spokesman Sam Jefferies says “challenges to personal safety and security, racism, a growing mental health crisis, and issues magnified by COVID are challenges playing out within our stores.”
“I think security is a concern on everyone’s mind,” a Starbucks customer told Fox 8. “If they’re making this decision, I’m sure it’s based on the safety of its customers, as well as their employees.”
Five other downtown Starbucks locations will remain open, as well as several others throughout New Orleans, which is on pace to record the highest rate of homicides per capita of any major city this year.

A mental health crisis that impacts only one store?
The mental health of the customers? Who pays $6.50 for a cup of Joe?
Yep...now who wants to pay that kind of price for a mediocre cup of joe? The mentally ill. LOl
Starbucks to close more stores as crime rages in New Orleans
KARMA! Not trendy anymore to ban police from stores and/or refuse to serve police! Consequences 🤣😂https://t.co/VSLjH2waMQ— Gemma aka Myrna 😘 (@GigaBeers) September 18, 2022
Canal is just anal with a leading “C.”
New Orleans has much better coffee than what Starbucks serves. When it comes to coffee, Starbucks can’t compete with other local places.
Starbucks. What a bunch of racists. Creating a coffee desert.
Starbucks doesn’t have beignets.
Racism?! At a Starbucks? Were their baristas refusing black customers?!
Have the white supremacists set up shop in New Orleans?
Ah Starbucks....home of the homeless until it isn’t anymore
Racism?
They are being racist by closing the store. If they mention race as a reason they are admitting it.
Hmmmm.....besides all the stated reasons, I wonder if this Starbucks voted to unionize recently? Or... were they going to vote for a union?
Perhaps they should all move to Kalifornia, were the idiot Governor is pushing $22 per hour wage. Eventually all of them will learn the true minimum wage - $0 per hour. There is a pizza shop in San Francisco with no one working with the public. One uses kiosks and tablets to order and pay. The product, a slice or an entire pizza, eventually shows up. Several years ago we read about a machine that could make 300 hamburgers an hour. Once again, no humans, just kiosks, and the occasional mechanic to maintain the machine. There could be one, part time worker that stocks the machine. Machines do not call in sick, do not sue, and definitely do not unionize.
Sewer street run by libtards
They don’t sell Community Coffee at Starbucks, so who cares?
Good.
That is a slur on the landlord. It isn’t well known, but the building where that store is located belongs to one of the city’s most prestigious men’s lunch clubs. The membership is all white (yes, there are all-black clubs as well, but they get a pass). Starbucks is bidding for anti-racism points by depriving the club of lease revenue from its prime commercial space. It’s another phase of cancel culture, as the club is unlikely to land another national tenant of equal credit quality. Starbucks is probably exaggerating the allegations of violence, as a way of getting out of the lease without penalty. The club likes privacy and doesn’t want publicity in a black-majority city. Almost certainly they will not sue for breach of contract.
I'm curious as to what the racism claims are about.
In California, vending machines will become more popular, they have advanced ones in Japan. You can get a pizza from a vending machine, although it would have to be bolted in and made of concrete so thieves wouldn’t try to break into it.
