Finnish President Niinisto on pseudo-referendums: Putin went all-in, the future of the Russian Federation is at stake
https://censor.net/ua/news ^ | 20.09.22 23:59 | Finnish President Saule Niinisto

Finnish President Saule Niinisto believes that Vladimir Putin's decision to hold so-called "referendums" in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine risks the future and the Russian economy.

Niinisto said this at a press conference on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly session on Tuesday.

"Now we are in a situation where Putin, using the term from poker, went all-in, and playing in this way is extremely risky. By VA-bank, I mean, for example, the future and economic future of Russia," he said.

The Finnish president added that the so-called "referendums" in the occupied Ukrainian territories cannot even be called that: "they aim to create a quasi-legal status that will grant quasi-legal rights to invade these territories."

Niinisto also noted that during his time at the UN, he did not notice a decrease in support.

Was and is it not expected that NATO would get its panties in a bunch over the Referendum?

“Pseudo-referendums”?

Lulz. Expected. A given coming from the US/EU/NATO/UK.

“The referenda are part of a dance with Russian law. Russia’s Duma has met and passed legislation that will govern how new territories, along with their citizens, are admitted into the Russian Republic. I must emphasize that the decision to hold the referenda this week was made some weeks ago. Ukraine’s continued shelling of civilians in the Donbas made this move an imperative.

Once the votes are completed and the results announced, the next move will be Russia’s–i.e., welcoming the former Ukrainian oblasts into the Russian Republic. Once they are admitted, any further attack by Ukraine on those territories will be an act of war against Russia. Putin has made it very clear that he will act against any nation waging war against Russia and its citizens. This move is putting the United States and NATO on notice. If they continue to enable Ukrainian attacks on Russian citizens then they will be targeted in response.

We are crossing a threshold that could escalate into World War III. I am certain that Vladimir Putin is not playing games. He is not Joe Biden. He does not speak foolishly off-the cuff nor does he make idle threats. From the Russian perspective, Russia’s very existence is at stake.

This should sober the west up, but that is unlikely. France’s Macron was first out of the gate today issuing empty threats against Russia. Biden’s White House was close behind. Howls of outrage. But Russia no longer cares. It has watched the west play the mute during the last 8 years while the democratically elected President of Ukraine was forced from office (with the active backing of UK and US officials) and while Ukraine subsequently killed thousands of men, women and children in the Donbas. The west was quite clear–it did not care.

Washington and NATO have shot their wad and have no credible conventional military force to counter Russia accepting the results of the referenda. Their only alternative beyond throwing a tantrum is to threaten the use of nuclear weapons.”

I wish the Minsk agreements had held. The world would have been a better place now.

We could ask Gaddafi what happens when you cross the neocons, but he has “left the building”...

The funny fact is that the Minsk agreements were geared for the maximal Ukrainian benefit possible. Some even considered it a betrayal ofbl Donbas people.
They allowed Ukraine to keep all the territory minus Crimea.
The West derailed them simply out of spite to provoke conflict.

"By VA-bank, I mean, for example, the future and economic future of Russia," he said.

Va banque or Vabanque (German: Va Bank) is a gambling term from the card game of Pharo or Faro, which was popular in the 18th and 19th century. It is similar to the decision to "go bank" (or "banco") in chemin de fer, a form of baccarat. It means that a player bets equal to the current amount of money in the game's "bank". Vabanque is generally a risky choice in that the player puts everything at stake, he or she is "all in", and can lose everything, or gain an equal amount.

Doch Hitler entgegnete: „Ich habe in meinem Leben immer Vabanque gespielt!“

Are you serious. Russian aggression must be countered. Putin is acting very much like Hitler did in the 1930’s when it went after Austria and the Sudetenland. Where does Russia intend to stop?

Good enough for interloper albanians to break away from Serbia with outside support than good enough for Ukraine to get the salami treatment. The use of the term ‘occupied territories’ is very telling. This Finnish fool probably sees no Jewish right to Judea and Samaria and the Golan either. But Kosovo ok. Hypocritical pukes.

Your usual BS. Putin is acting very much like Hitler and the Nazis did in the 1930’s when they went after Austria and the Sudetenland. How do you justify what is happening? You probably fall back on past Nazi arguments.

What about Turkey in nth Cyprus. What about China and Tibet and Indonesia and Irian Jaya. Land grabs. With hardly a whimper from the sanctamonious west

The media narratives contradict reality on Ukraine big time. Invest some time to research the arguments of both sides and evidence to them.

In place of Finland and Poland it it prudent to keep a low profile. Russia is historically slow at harnessing but tends to ride quick.

Exactly 100% agree.

It’s either defend Russia or be in a world without Russia, they say.

This will go nuclear. Our leader is a lunatic in the early stages of dementia. Why should we even imagine this will end well? We were lucky a few other times.I bet our luck has run out.

No the Serbs started the whole thing by starting a land grab after Yugoslavia fell apart. Then they made their actions worse by starting ethnic cleansing that spread .

And their are holier than thou idiots who gloat about China should do a land grab of Eastern Russia. So it’s not land grabbing that is the issue. It’s hatred of Russians and their culture.

It’s about empire, baby! The New World Order that Biden said we need to arrive upon in first place.

But if you paid any attention, and I was immersed in it daily online....The Russian Chechen wars are a great place to learn about Russia at war.
