The Navajo Nation Takes a Hit for Biden’s Climate Policies

Yes, oil prices are slightly down, but that is only because Joe Biden continues to dip into the dwindling supply in the Strategic Petroleum Reserve. So you can expect the average price at the pump, which even as it now stands is still much higher than you paid before Biden’s ascent, to spike again.

While it would run counter to the environmental partners of the administration, the solution would be to extract more energy from the land under our feet. That means drilling for natural gas and oil. And if one believes the mainstream media, one would think that the people of the nation have cried out in unison to halt drilling and projects such as the Dakota Access Pipeline. And politicians and activists both abroad and at home are all too happy to save the planet, even at the expense of average people everywhere.

I have long said that if government decisions haven’t hit you yet, don’t worry, the government will get around to it sooner or later. And now, it has gotten around to members of the Navajo Nation.

Fox News reports that the administration is getting ready to finalize a rule from the Department of the Interior that would create a 20-year moratorium on oil and gas leasing in a 10-mile radius of the Chaco Culture National Historical Park. The moratorium was announced in 2021. Some 336,000 acres would be off-limits to exploration and extraction and came at the behest of some tribes, Democratic politicians, and environmental activists. While this is good news for the Patagonia and North Face set, it is not good news for tribal members who own royalties on those lands.

There were several attempts to put more power plants and oil processing facilities on the Navajo Reservation fifty years ago.. The American Indian Movement(AIM Assholes in Moccasins) got it all shut down as they did the Fairchild Plant in Shiprock.
That is when we decided to move from Farmington NM (a place I still love) back to the land of the Cherokees.

Leadership of most Indian nations is totally corrupt. Navajo nation is still poverty stricken despite the hundreds of millions granted to them. 2014, out by Antelope Canyon. The village is dirt roads and shacks. Looks like Haiti or some such.

I wonder how many Chacos were displaced when the Navajo moved into their part of Mesa Verde (Colorado). Maybe the Navajo chief was distracted by a civil war.

A few years ago, I railfanned the Black Mesa and Lake Powell Railroad. It was a landlock railroad owned by the Navajos that ran from their coal mine to the power. It was powered by E60 electric locomotives. (E60 were beautiful GE locos.) Now it is gone...

Look at any electoral map of the Plains or Rocky Mountain states. Other than liberal cities like Denver or resort areas like Jackson Hole, the blue patches in the overall red map are Indian reservations. Most of the tribal leaders are the rural equivalent of Lori Lightfoot or Stacey Abrams: peddlers of minority group voters to the Democrats for money and power.

That is why Mrs rktman’s idea works. Each county in the country gets one vote. Whoever wins the county wins that vote. The demokkkommies would have to actually get their hands and feet dirty and deal with the yucky fly over folks in that case. Never happen though.

Counties vary in size by so much that it would never happen. One co-coworker of mine thought the head of household should be able to vote on behalf of his children (he has 9, though some are now over 18). Just think of the political clout large homeschooling families would have then!

Doesn’t matter. If there are 100 voters in the county and it goes 51 for “A” then “A” gets the county. County of a million and 500,001 go for “A” and on and on. In NV two counties determine how the state goes. Hardly seems “fair” to the other 14. It’s what it is.
