The Naval Station Newport (NAVSTA Newport) is a United States Navy base located in the city of Newport and the town of Middletown, Rhode Island. Naval Station Newport is home to the Naval War College and the Naval Justice School.

Newport now maintains inactive ships at its pier facilities, along with the United States Coast Guard. In BRAC 2005 (Base Realignment and Closure), NAVSTA Newport gained over five hundred billets, in addition to receiving the Officer Candidate School (OCS), the Naval Supply Corps School, and several other activities, to include a few Army Reserve units.

NAVSTA Newport is home to nearly 50 U.S. Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard and Army Reserve commands and federal activities. It remains a U.S. Navy premier site for training officers, officer candidates, senior enlisted leaders and midshipman candidates, as well as supporting training for several enlisted personnel rates.

NAVSTA is also the home to Naval Undersea Warfare Center, Division Newport which is one of two Navy full-spectrum research, development, test and evaluation, engineering, and fleet support centers for submarine warfare systems and many other systems associated with the undersea battlespace.

In July 2008, the Naval Station Newport Vision 2035 Master Plan was published, outlining the future direction for the Navy’s organization and infrastructure needs. Naval Station Newport is the Navy’s world-class Center of Learning Excellence.

AAAAAAAAAH-CHOOOOOOOO is right! LOL You find out windows and doors aren’t air-tight on days like today. I’ve sneezed too many times already and I’m sure it’s not over.
At least they knocked it all out today so we’re through with harvest mess for now. We still have that huge field of soybeans across the road to deal with when that guy harvests. The leaves are just starting to turn yellow so it’ll be a little while yet. That won’t be knocked out in a day. *sigh*

I miss the wall already. I see headlights through the window out of the corner of my eye when a car goes by and I’m not used to it. LOL

Glad your day was a good one, even if it was a little warm. Warm here, too, and will be the next two days before a front comes through to cool us off again. The weekend looks to be really nice.

I hope that the soybean harvest isn’t as awful as that corn harvest looks. You will be stuck in the house for days on end!

I want a cool front NOW...and some more rain. That rain from week before last was just a teaser.

Any harvest kicks up a mess. The field across the road is huge and the guy farming it doesn’t have an army working with him like Dusty does. It’s going to take him a while to get it all in and we hope for a cold front to come through right before he starts so any wind will be out of the north. If it’s out of the south, the dust will blow straight across our farm ..... for days.
He planted that field late this year and it’ll be one of the last in the county to be harvested. We have a decent break before choke-time rolls around again. Whew!

I keep hoping some sort of front will roll through your area to give you some rain but it just doesn’t seem to happen. :-(

Ask him to wait till the wind is blowing from the north. LOL! He’d listen, right?

I guess we’re in wait mode again. I’m not good at waiting. :)

I never see the guy. I only met him once, back in the spring when he was plowing the field.

It comes with the territory and it’s only for a short time. I’ll take it over living in a city any day.
And keep plenty of Kleenex on hand. LOL

Well, I live in the city and still have to keep plenty of kleenex on hand. Burmuda grass, mesquite trees, tumbleweeds, sand, mulberry blooms and the cotton from north of us where they have actual farms. Allergens reign. LOL!

A very pleasant good Tuesday morning and ((HUGS)) to everyone at the Canteen and to all our military at home and abroad. Thanks for your service to our country and thanks Lauren for this morning's thread.

How's everyone doing this morning?

There’s no escaping allergens, no matter where one lives. I’ll take a few extra ones over living in a subdivision with barking dogs, noisy kids, and nosey neighbors. I’ve had enough of that and the past 20+ years with no one close by have been heaven. Worth the sneezing and red nose from blowing every spring and fall. LOL

Howdy, E.G.C. ((HUGZ))

Another gorgeous day for running around the lake with Gizmo?
Sure wish we had your pretty blue sky over here instead of the hazy sky we’ve had lately.

Yes! Barking dogs! I wish there were neighborhoods with “cats only”. They’re so nice and quiet...for the most part. LOL!

We went early yesterday and we will go early the rest of this week because it's still too warm (95) to take dogs out.

But, we did have fun out there yesterday.

Gizmo also enjoyed his monthly visit with BFF Ringo at the vet yesterday.

We’re lucky enough to live in a “neighborhood” that’s cats only. We have them and Hubby’s cousin has one. Any dogs in the area are waaaaaaay off and we only hear them, barely, when we’re outside at night. That works.

I have had the honor of attending several graduations from the various training facilities at the base.

A really good day for Gizmo, getting to see his BFF, Ringo on top of fun at the lake.

I hope you get to benefit from the front that’s going to cool us off Thursday. Too hot over there! Toasty here but not as toasty as you’re dealing with.

Well, yeah, all cats except for the odd linx or pack of coyotes that might hang out for a while. LOL!

Seems like every next door neighbor we have has a dog that won’t shut up...or 3 of them or more, yippy terriors or nasty pits. I like dogs when they’re quiet. My son’s husky hardly ever made a sound. Maybe that’s the wolf in them. Don’t know what their new one is like. Except big. She’s going to be HUGE!

Guess I’ll go after finishing up this show I’m watching. See ya tomorrow!

In One Day He Flew 51 Wounded to Safety Through Gunfire and Mines Earning Him the Medal of Honor

A self-described “reluctant soldier”, Major Patrick Henry Brady would go on to earn the nation’s highest military decoration for valor. In January 1964 Brady volunteered for Vietnam and was assigned to the 57th Medical Detachment – Helicopter Ambulance, led by Major Charles Kelly. The unit’s call sign was “Dust Off,” a cry for help that would become the most famous of all Vietnam call signs. On January 6, 1968, Brady was rousted from off duty to help with an extraordinary causality situation. Despite repeated warnings that the missions were impossible – due to weather, the enemy, or land mines – on three different missions Brady extracted patients from areas where other aircraft had failed. For these actions, Brady was awarded the Medal of Honor. In two tours in Vietnam, Brady flew over 2,500 combat missions and rescued over 5,000 wounded.
