Rapper Kanye West revealed that he ended his contract with the Gap clothing store in order to manufacture his clothing line in the U.S.
Appearing on CNBC, West said, “It was always a dream of mine to be at the Gap and to bring the best product possible to the masses, and I always talked to them about doing products for $20 like the best product in the world, designed at the same level as the top fashion houses in the world, at $20 for the people.”
“Obviously there’s always struggles and back-and-forth when you’re trying to build something new and integrate teams,” he added.

Kanye needs to find a comfy spot and read a book!
“You can’t fire me, I quit!”
Nice try con-ye.
Good for him
If he can bring textile manufacturing back to the US, more power to him.
We don’t agree on some issues, but I’m with you on this.
Fixed it.
Seems like it’s probably much more automated now.
Good for Kanye! There are still lots of clothes sewn in the US, you just have to look harder to find it. The fabric likely still imported, but the labor is in the US. I’m glad to hear Kanye talking this way.
Kanye is a gay fish.
The retail model has changed significantly enough that as-ordered semi-automated clothing manufacture might be feasible.
Instead of tariff sizing clothing, sending it to brick and mortar retailers who sell out of some sizes and mark down others, custom sizes and colors could be ordered online, manufactured domestically to avoid a 4 month import lead time, and shipped directly to the buyer.
If they can already do it with men's shirts, suit jackets, and pants, it's just a question of price and market acceptance.
Exactly right, Kanye may be ahead of the trend and will make bank. Especially in women’s wear. When you find a garment that really fits you well and looks great, you always wish you could find another. Being able to order it in new seasonal colors or fabrics would be very popular.
Well good on Ye, formerly known as Kanye. I might buy something from him, even if he is a kinda nutty dude.
Kanye has become more open politically and spiritually.
He could have a positive influence on millions of people, especially black.
Those who do not appreciate Kanye’s talents should at least take note that he is a multi-billionaire. That doesn’t happen by accident. He’s a smart guy, even if he’s a bit eccentric.
