Why can’t the fed govt just let the states make their decisions?. (While, morally m ok with the 15 week cap). I’m not ok with the Fed govt inserting power where it just has no constitutional authority to do so.

As much as there is likely a GOP majority in the Senate that does not support abortion generally, I think it is even more likely to be a GOP majority in the Senate that believes in now keeping abortion an issue for each state without any federal intrusion - pro or con.
This is a State issue. Nothing in the constitution gives the Feds power to legislate in this area. And remember, if the Feds can ban it they can also legalize it…without restriction.

The legislation has no chance of passing and abortion bans and restrictions are being passed in red states anyway. So, yes, it obvious that this is an attempt to sabotage a red wave in the mid-terms.
