Yes, it has been a vehicle for leftist indoctrination. But like Norman Lear was upset that Archie Bunker was popular and many liked his wisdom, some SNL skits had contra currents. There were some who liked SNL’s “Ex-Police” bashing drug users to death and then saying, “Another drug-related death”. But there were always lots of sewer in SNL for every funny skit.
I also think of the Reagan “Mastermind” sketch, it was supposed to portray Reagan as knowing everything about Iran-Contra, while appearing to be a doddering old man, to the outside world.
