One of the stunning facts of the age is the continued prominence of Donald Trump. His candidates did well in the GOP primaries this year. He won more votes in 2020 than he did in 2016. His favorability ratings within his party have been high and basically unchanged since late 2016. In a range of polls, some have actually shown Trump leading President Joe Biden in a race for reelection in 2024.
His prominence is astounding because over the past seven years the American establishment has spent enormous amounts of energy trying to discredit him. Those of us in this establishment correctly identified Trump as a grave threat to American democracy. The task before us was clear. We were never going to shake the hard-core MAGA folks. The job was to peel away independents and those Republicans offended by and exhausted by his antics.
Many strategies were deployed in order to discredit Trump. There was the immorality strategy: Thousands of articles were written detailing his lies and peccadilloes. There was the impeachment strategy: Investigations were launched into his various scandals and outrages. There was the exposure strategy: Scores of books were written exposing how shambolic and ineffective the Trump White House really was.

It used to be so easy to destroy Republicans, they whine!
It never EVER occurs to them that it might be the ISSUES!
But when you listen to NPR all day, which only talks about climate change, trangenders and Ukraine, you get a little out of touch.
So do wonder they can't understand why Trump is still standing after 7 years and 83 kitchen sinks.
Oh, and keep in mind the author was the “conservative” voice on PBS who just KNEW Obama would be a great President because of the crease in his pants.
What is he whining about? Of course there’s a plan to stop Donald Trump?
Look for a reason to indict Trump? Check
Have the Fibbies visit Trump supporters like Mike Lindell? Check.
Etc.
Wait. I thought the walls were closing in... again.
The easiest way to destroy Trump was exactly what was on offer to the Republicans in 2015. Adopt at least some of his talking points and policies. That is, steal his thunder, or give it a good try anyway. That is obvious politics.
I was very surprised that this was not done in 2015-16. It was total political malpractice. The R party doubled down, and thereby cemented Trumps lead. The D’s doubled down even more.
And here we see (as expected) even more of that.
Or that they have been miserably wrong on what is best for America, which exposes them for the commies that they are
But… you already did…
Or did you?
The strategy is to keep yelling about Trump and hope that (and abortion) brings enough Democrats out to vote. After the midterms they will try to indict Trump. Then maybe Biden quits and Kamala or whoever backtracks enough to make them think they have a winning chance in 2024.
Yeah, isn't that something!
As a young child I remember my (Democrat) folks saying, “all of the politicians are crooks.”. Trump was the first outsider to say the same thing. My folks were always right. Trump was/is right: DRAIN THE SWAMP!

ROTFLOL
🙄🙄🙄
I could stand in the middle of 5th Avenue and shoot somebody and I wouldn't lose voters. If such a thing were to happen, we all know that the person whom President Trump shot needed killin'.
I see fake stories out everyday trying to discredit President Trump and his MAGA supporters. I do not know where this clown hides out at.
Why is almost every politician ignoring everything Trump has to say when most of the country agrees with most of what he says?
Just ONCE, I’d like one of these geniuses to provide ANY evidence that supports this contention. HOW does Trump “threaten democracy”? What actions has Trump taken, what statements has he made, that “threaten democracy”? They never, ever say.
Worthless, petty, lying sacks, all of them.
“We were never going to shake the hard-core MAGA folks.”
I like the idea of making America great again.
Because all those who opposed Trump turned into Democrats. They abandoned conservatism.
Because, there is no strategy that can defeat PDJT at this point.
I thought “the walls are closing in.”
Didn’t Joe Scarborough lead off his show with another iteration of that line the other day?
