LOS ANGELES (AP) — A teenage girl died of an apparent overdose at a Los Angeles high school and police on Wednesday were investigating three other possible overdoses of teens in the area where officials warned that dealers are selling counterfeit pills laced with deadly fentanyl.
Officers were called to Bernstein High School in Hollywood Tuesday night after a man said his 15-year-old stepdaughter had overdosed on campus, LA police said.
The girl and her 15-year-old friend had not come home from school in the afternoon and the man began driving around town looking for the pair. He found his stepdaughter around 8 p.m. in a courtyard at the high school, said police Lt. John Radke.
“She was very ill. She had been the victim of an overdose,” Radke told FOX 11 News. “She was able to communicate with him and was able to let him know that her friend was in the women’s restroom.”
The man and a school employee found the other girl unresponsive in a restroom. They administered aid until paramedics arrived and pronounced her dead, police said.
Investigators believe all the victims purchased what they thought were pills of Percocet, a prescription painkiller, at the park. Police were investigating whether the pills were laced with fentanyl, which officials said is a common practice.

When pills are disguised to look like something else that's called poisoning.
Are the Mexican pushers just reckless pill makers or are they on a mission to create killing fields here? Are the Chinese duping them, too? Why would they want to kill the “customers?” Or is it just to demoralize the country?

Fentanyl is a huge factor in all overdoses. The problem is fentanyl is 50x the strength by weight than heroin. It’s also cheaper by weight than heroin in its pure form. With that strength difference, it’s easy as pie for the dregs of society putting these drugs on the street to screw up the dosage. They are deliberately subbing fentanyl for heroin to pad their margins. Percocet is supposed to be heroin in a pill. But users are getting fentanyl and overdosing because the people making illegal drugs lack the skill or knowledge to do it right. And $100b and counting opioid lawsuit awards mean legit drug manufacturers won’t touch it even if heroin were made legal.

Just guessing. The “Percoset” pills are manufactured using inert ingredients and a small amount of fentanyl. The effect on the consumer is the same, both fentanyl and oxycodone being opioids. Sometimes the batches are not thoroughly mixed, resulting in excess fentanyl levels in some of the pills.

Note that there are many users of fentanyl. And not everyone is dying of an overdose. Since these are illegal drugs, any number of criminals are involved who don’t know what they’re doing. Their mistakes result in dead users.
Percocet is oxycodone with Tylenol.
It’s not an overdose. It’s murder by the Chinese with help from the Mexican cartels and our own government. Call it what it is.
It’s a fair question. They dont want their customers to die. It’s a fine line tho. The fentanyl is so damn strong, a tiny bit will either make you super high, or kill you. And it’s super addicting so if you survive U buy more. I read these dealers try to teach people how to use the drug to keep them from Od’ing. Nuts.

Thanks. I know they wouldn’t want to kill all the buyers, but killing so many would seem to stifle demand at some point, because either the kids will wise up or LE will have to do something. And why waste it by putting double doses in?
I guess it is just a perfect storm of ignorance, recklessness and exploitation.
