Patton's words come to mind: "I would rather have a German division in front of me than a French one behind me."
True, but the disapproval also does not automatically translate to approval for Republicans because of how demonized the Republican party as a whole has become. This was not true in 1994 or even 2010. Republicans as a whole were not thought of as Nazis and fascists back then.
