COCHISE COUNTY, Ariz. — Deputies said a man stopped them in the middle of the night in the middle of the road to tell them that he had murdered someone.
In a news release, the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office said that Jay Albert Stevens stopped the deputy at approximately 1 a.m. Thursday and said that he had shot and killed someone. Stevens told the deputy that he did not know the address where it happened, but led the deputy to a residence where a 61-year-old man was found dead.
Stevens allegedly told detectives that the victim was his stepfather, and that he wanted to bury the body but was “too lazy,” My Herald/Review Media reported. Stevens allegedly told investigators he also considered chaining the victim’s body to his truck to “drag him out into the desert,” but decided against it.
“I was gonna bury him, but I’m too lazy to dig a hole that big,” Stevens allegedly told investigators, My Herald/Review Media reported.
The victim’s identity was not released, KOLD reported.
When deputies questioned Stevens, he allegedly said that his stepfather was an alcoholic and that “this has been building in me for a long time,” according to My Herald/Review Media. Stevens told investigators that the final straw was his stepfather accusing him of not reading the Bible.
“It took me a while to get the gumption to go out there with a gun,” Stevens told detectives, according to My Herald/Review Media.
Stevens was charged with first-degree murder and is being held in the Cochise County Jail without bond, according to online records.
One thing I learned from movies about the mafia - you have to dig the hole first.
the final straw was his stepfather accusing him of not reading the Bible.Huh? That'll teach him!
Strangely honest, his conscience actually got to him.
He needs to repent.
I guess the stepfather had a point. He would have been better off if he read the bible. Anyway he’ll have a lot of time to do it now.
When I wonder how many more things can be screwed up in this world I run across this story. Add one. Jeez. Can’t we just shoot these people on sight?
For some reason the link doesn’t work.
I’m old enough to remember a black man(WANTED) running to flag down a cop to say someone just tried to kill him. It was Jeffrey Dahmer.
His stepfather was right.
Happens all over the country.
It just with the instant news of the internet we hear of these right now.
What??? Jeffrey Dahmer wasn't black.
Oh, do you mean the “cop” was Jeffrey Dahmer?
Oh. I think I finally got it. The “someone” was Jeffrey Dahmer. Took me reading it several times, but I think the 3rd one is the charm?
And——there is PLENTY of desert in Ariz.
Yep. Totally remember that. Led to his capture I think. I always remember that one girl who screamed at Dahmer in court, “I hate you Jeffrey Dahmer! I hate you”. So awfully sad. He killed her brother I think.
I recently saw a movie about Dahmer, not the usual focus on his murders but on his life in high school before he became a killer. A true story written by a guy (John Backderf) who became a graphic artist, but had gone to h.s. with Dahmer and a close friend. Did not know of his crimes till Dahmer was caught. It’s very good. Called My friend Dahmer.
Stepdad may have had a point.
