Florida took the top spot in The Heritage Foundation’s Education Freedom Report Card that was released on Friday. The organization took into account four broad categories when ranking what it referred to as education freedom: education choice, regulatory freedom, academic transparency and education spending return on investment.
In the inaugural 2022 edition of the Education Freedom Report Card, Florida is the top-ranked state across the board. The Heritage Foundation lauded Florida’s commitment to establishing and maintaining parental rights in their child’s education, a positive return on investment, and the state’s available options among private, charter, and district schools.
“If sunlight is the best disinfectant, it’s no wonder why the Sunshine State is one of the freest states for teachers and children to pursue an education that is largely devoid of red tape,” Heritage Foundation President Kevin Roberts said to Fox News today. “Florida has led the way in expanding education choice, cutting red tape, and holding schools accountable to parents with academic transparency.”
The group also ranked Florida first among states for academic transparency. The conservative think tank praised Florida’s rejection of critical race theory-based curriculums through Gov. Ron DeSantis‘ ‘Stop WOKE Act’ that was signed into law this year.
Florida also picked up points for House Bill 1467, which requires that educational material and learning objectives be available to the public.
The Sunshine State’s alternative teaching certification was well-received by the group, leading to Florida’s second place ranking in the ‘Regulatory Freedom’ metric.
DeSantis in August launched a pair of teacher recruitment initiatives, expanding on the previously-announced certification opportunities for military veterans to attain teaching certificates.

It’s settled. DeSantis in ‘24.
Freedom in education is not complete until parents who home-school their children get refunded the taxes they pay for education in their district/county/city/state.
School choice should include home-school with school vouchers following kids to the school of the parents’ choice.
Sarasota County has excellent schools…Fort Myers area not very good…

BINGO. If we want to play we have to suit up... they do. Step two? Form 'nonprofits' so we can get paid to give them a hard time.
What? California was not first? Unexpectedly!
There is no place for government involvement in education.
Does anyone know if FL is trending to a classical American education curriculum similar to Christian homeschool curriculum?
*It’s settled. DeSantis in ‘24.
Not a chance with Trump running.*
If it’s vs. Newsom we should do it my way. Trump made America great. He can do it with the rest of the world as SOS.
Democrats are not going to nominate Newsom. They’ve already done enough damage with Biden, and using Newsom means that they would be doubling-down on destruction of the country. Newsom is far worse than Biden, and that’s saying something.
Why can’t we get 14 years of President Trump and President DeSantis?
Our country needs all the time we can get to clean out the swamp.
Then the current Hellary “Here I am” campaign makes sense !
I can see it now a Hellary and ButtGiggley ticket.
That’s 12 years not 14.
*Democrats are not going to nominate Newsom.* He’s good enough for Calif.
When the suburban housewives see him for the first time they’ll dream he’s picking them up at a bar. The voters don’t care about experience or results. They go for the flash.
Here’s a compromise that should work for everybody:
8 years of DeSantis with Trump as his VP
Then when DeSantis has fixed the urgent and vital things, like law and order, that Trump has proven incapable of fixing, Trump can then have his own second term and run his excellent economic program to capitalize further on DeSantis’ successes.
I can tell you this much - if the next GOP President doesn’t cut the balls off the bureaucrazy then that nouveau Praetorian Guard will run the nation henceforth and all trappings of representation will be false ones.
And that's a shame.
Trump will lose and DeSantis is an improvement over Trump in every measure.
Trump is out there taking the arrows. The MSM would like to direct them at De Santis but Trump’s in the way. Trump as POTUS won’t have the time to do his job and deal with the media. SOS would be perfect for him.
