The phenomenon, speech pathologist Nancy Polow says, is part of a concerning trend in kids born during or shortly before the pandemic Compounding the crisis, when parents sought help, they were met with lockdown-related roadblocks, such as mask restrictions and telehealth meetings Now the restrictions have lessened, Polow says, parents are scrambling to address these failures, signing up for pricey speech therapy sessions A growing body of academic research also supports Polow's claim that children born over the past three or so years possessing weaker verbal skills

The socialization process for kids to interact and play with other kids is well established by the age of 4. There will be a generation of covid kids just like there was a generation of crack babies. And it’s already done.

Fauci, Birx, the MSM, and the politicians who pushed the vaccines and the shutdowns have committed crimes against humanity!

It may be purely anecdotal on my part, but I’ve lately noticed the same thing about a lot of young men just now entering to workforce. A lot of them can barely string an intelligible sentence together.

Not being able to speak is 100% the parents' fault unless the kids have some mental or physical problem.

The parents obviously weren't paying attention to the kids.

There are those of us who grew up in remote areas without other kids within miles.

We can all communicate well.

We even have advantages over those from more populated places.

When the lockdowns came along, it was no big deal for us.

Public school "socialization" is a farce.

The students only learn how to deal with folks of their own ages.

This should be brought up as a campaign issue. |
People need to know how much damage liberals did to their children and their future, all for self-interest.

this should be a mass-case study of seeing lips move in relation to learning to speak...

A long time back, I found that kids who couldn’t read had parents that didn’t read to them. Such a shame...

Are there scholarly papers, written before the Rat Party lockdowns, indicating that early speech development...early language acquisition...requires that the child in question should be able to see the lips moving, the facial expressions and the eyes of the person speaking for normal language acquisition?

I have a close friend with two young children who seem to have had completely opposite effects from the COVID fiasco.

The younger one is noticeably behind in his speech development.

The older one is six years old, and as a result of the school lockdowns she was forced to spend most of her time at home and with extended family members — most them adults — for more than a year. If I were to prepare a transcript of her conversations and have them analyzed by a speech therapist, she probably has the vocabulary of a typical 11-12 year old child.

An early elementary teacher that I know has noticed the same thing - kids coming into Pre-K and Kindergarten that cannot speak intelligibly or even at all. When the school offers free speech therapy many turn it down - “I can understand him, so he doesn’t need it”.

Masks and lack of socialization definitely factors.

That makes sense to me

I thought do these parents never talk to their babies?

Good luck with that. Humans are not like cars. You just can’t swap out bad parts.

The development of language skills is, like many steps in human development, is intended to occur in a “window “ of time. The child develops, and at a certain point, the brain is developed enough to begin taking on language skills.

These poor kids will likely be verbally diminished from what would have been their potential. If one wanted to cognitively diminish a child’s language learning, I can think of no better way than having all the adults in his life walk around with a mask on.

Forgetting the mask situation just for this question: Have you ever thought about how much we get by hearing, and how much we get by lip=reading?

Children are quite flexible and develop at different rates. I wonder if these parents are overreacting.
But I understand how concerned parents can be.
