Katie Hobbs wants to avoid debate with Kari Lake, but Az Clean Elections rejected her town hall proposal

Democrat Katie Hobbs will not get her wish for separate televised town hall interviews of herself and fellow gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake, Arizona's Clean Elections Commission decided Thursday.

The decision was a blow to Hobbs, whose campaign had requested the elimination of direct interaction between the candidates, arguing that Lake "only wants a spectacle..."

The commission on Thursday gave Hobbs' campaign one more week to agree to the terms of a televised debate, set for Oct. 12.

If the campaigns can’t agree to terms in a week, Lake will get a 30-minute Q&A

Poor Katie, what to do, what to do? Debate Kari Lake and get destroyed, or hide from Kari Lake and get destroyed. My guess is she hides. It seems to be modus operandi for the scumbag left now that Bidung set the standard.

Given that they stole and election and the MSM, Hollywood, deep state agencies and the DNC helped them along with putting forth morons like Beto and a seriously comprised Fetterman up for election it’s no wonder. They feel enormously confident that they can pull off these tiny contests it seems.

All of the Dem candidates are following the Biden basement strategy.

Yep. They’re taking Biden’s lead. The less Dems personally say, the better for their political fortunes. The press pounds the drum in the meantime in an attempt to shape the public narrative. Most Dems dutifully march to that drum.

She can just do a Bidung, and take a lid in the basement and let Dominion handle the rest

The governor elections of these states are not tiny contests by any means. Pennsylvania is very influential in politics, population, and money, and the other two are border states. Policies there affect the rest of the nation.

“I can't believe I even survived that job.”

Staffers fleeing Katie Hobbs’ campaign question her ability to lead Arizona.

Hank Stephenson Jul 29

In the past five months, two-thirds of Democrat Katie Hobbs’ gubernatorial campaign staff have left, and several describe the campaign as an emotionally abusive atmosphere that got so bad, they were forced to upend their lives and plans mid-election and seek employment elsewhere.

Apparently, 8 out of 12 workers left her campaign because of the insane behavior of Hobbs' campaign manager Nicole DeMont (yes, the one in this article talking to the Commisson.)

It should be a law these people running for office who want to get elected, be the boss, and call the shots, should be told they will be taken off the ballot if they fail to publicly debate their opponents.

This ducking dodging and being evasive is down right offensive and those people should be publicly mocked and scorned.

It’s inconceivable to me that Americans would vote for a person that hides under a rock.

So what gives? Are Americans dumb... or are Dems making their luck?

I think debates are completely overrated. I don’t see how a debate performance says anything about how someone will govern. It’s at best bad political theater at worst it’s just theater.

It has proven decisive in some historically significant American political campaigns. Two that stand out are the Lincoln/Douglas debates and the Kennedy/Nixon debates. It's widely acknowledged that Nixon's poor appearance and public persona irretrievably damaged his bid for the Presidency against Kennedy, who came across as attractive and well-spoken by comparison.

I'm sure Katie Hobbs has the same thing in mind when she thinks on how a debate with Kari would be seen. On the same stage, Hobbs would by comparison look like a schlumpy scarecrow with unpopular (or no) policy positions.

I know it’s good political strategy in some cases. Personally it tells me nothing other then how they look on TV. Might as well have a swimsuit contest.

Yes and everyone kids themselves into thinking they’re doing Lincoln-Douglas. They’re not!

She’ll probably find a sympathetic ear with the AZ Secretary of State, who oversees the election.
Katie Hobbs is the AZ Secretary of State.
