There’s custom checks between the US & Canada and no one seems very upset about it.

This is a fight for UK independence, for which it has paid tens of billions of pounds to get back.

For many decades the Republic of Ireland has had written into its Constitution that *anyone* born *anywhere* on the island of Ireland is automatically and instantly a citizen of the Republic. They changed that a few years for the *entire* island...but today the overwhelming majority of those living in NI are citizens of Eire. So if an independence vote were to succeed in NI it's hard to imagine that unification didn't take place.

I am afraid the facts on the ground cannot be so airily dismissed, the economies of the Republic and Northern Ireland are thoroughly intermixed and practically impossible to segregate, hence, the problem for EU and GB.
