China is already in a tight spot due to chip shortages. It is a major supply chain issue.

You really should learn to properly size images if you are going to post them here.

I would buy this story, except for the part about pulling chips from appliances. Maybe way back in the 80’s/90’s chips were socketed, but everything is soldered to the board now. Pulling a chip off without damage is tough.

They aren't literally pulling chips from already-manufactured household appliances.

Rather, they are diverting and re-purposing chips originally destined and/or intended for use in household appliances to military ordnance.

The journalist who wrote this article can be forgiven for not explicitly spelling it out for the dumbest among us.

Pardon?

I’m not quite sure who’s the dumb among us, but ‘pulling’ implies removing, not diverting or repurposing. If that’s an accurate statement, when I place an order for electronic chips from Mouser, am I ‘diverting’ too?

Lies, really, did you notice the source listed is Politico Europe, not Biden or a US source? But then as a cheerleader for the Putin/Russia cause, you wouldn’t know a lie if it bit you in the tush.

You are demanding far too much precision from an article of this nature. I make no excuses for the author of this article, but he probably simply felt that "pulling" sounded somehow "better."

I used to work at a plant where SMDs were manufactured, and would sometimes walk through the floor where the electronic components were mounted. I can easily imagine some factory worker or even advanced engineer hollering that someone should "pull" one set of components from one line to another - even though the components were still only lying loose in a "kanban" bin.

North Korea is making a Good Friend in Russia that will pay off if the big War comes. Remember—General Winter is waiting to take the field. My bet—North Korea will be nice and warm so will Serbia and Syria. Even Donbas will be warm but will Germany or Poland?

Thanks for your thoughtful reply. I think you’re right - somebody thought it sounded cooler. The thought of some dude playing with a soldering iron and wick all day, prying up chips, was too much for me :)

Selling our chips and those from other allied countries are probably already forbidden. I certainly hope our intelligence agencies are tracking this kind of sales. We are rapidly producing items for this fight, and have received major requests/contracts from Poland for Abrams tanks, and other armaments. Poland is also buying big amounts of serious weapons from South Korea. I imagine other countries are also providing weapons for Ukraine and the west, and purchasing from us.

Russia is reduced to getting weapons from Iran and North Korea. Even Turkey is ONLY selling its combat drones (800?) to Ukraine, but NOT Russia. I have heard that Taiwan chips are very good, Chinese chips not so much. The Ukes seem to have found an effective strategy of using citizen intelligence (cell phones) to target ammo, troop and leadership concentrations. There also seem to be partisan elements doing things in Ork occupied territories, including perhaps Crimea.

Another product I have read is a serious supply issue for Russia is high quality ball bearings, such as are sold by Sweden.

Yes, the vibrant, powerful Military Colossus that is North Korea with its thriving economy will come to Russia's aid!

And all Ukraine can rely on is the combined economic might and advanced military technology available from NATO plus Japan plus Australia, etc.

A piece of cake!

Uh, yeah, they are.

Russian troops are resorting to dishwasher and refrigerator parts to fix military equipment—and the U.S. is taking credit

So much western propaganda narrative. They actually believe the crap they shovel. It is sad - a great republic has been reduced to the reality of make-believe.

OK, so you explain to us ... if the sanctions aren’t effective, why is Russia so insistent on them ending?

Russia’s actions have given revealed the truth!

I get it: So now, instead of setting the surface-to-surface missile to "infra-red proximity detonation," the poor Russian soldier has to turn the dial to "eco-friendly speed wash (no spin)."

The WEST declared economic war on Russia. They launched an attack on the ruble and in all their hubris believed they would crash the Russian government. What they have in fact done is initiated the shift away from the petrol dollar and our insane fiat printing of currency to a more commodity based (real) currency. The ruble is HIGHER today than when president demented launched its economic salvo. The east is rapidly forming an alternative trade system (BRICS) which promises to NOT pull the stunts of manipulation of debt and currency the globalist in the west have made a career of doing through financialization. But the most obvious of it all, we get to witness the EU spiraling into a financial backwater as they de industrialize themselves. Germany is bleeding productivity as we speak. The UK is so stupid they continue to tie themselves to the EU like a teenage girl unable to break up with a narcissistic chad. The west believes it can win an attrition war in Ukraine, but in fact it is the Russians that will watch the west be bleed dry as they fantasize about windmills and solar utopia. Reality is a bitch, and the west is eventually going to face a heavy dose of it.
