Sarah Palin's pleas to fellow Republican fall on deaf ears

Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, who is running for the state’s at-large congressional district in November, has pleaded with her Republican challenger to drop his bid to avoid splitting the state’s GOP votes.

Nick Begich III, a businessman and member of the politically prominent Begich family, was a GOP candidate alongside Palin in the Aug. 16 special election to fill the House seat, which became vacant after longtime Republican Rep. Don Young died in office in March. State law required that a special election for the seat be held within five months of an intra-term vacancy, even as the 2022 midterm election will be held on Nov. 8, within three months of that date.

In the special election, both Palin and Begich lost to former State Rep. Mary Peltola, the Democratic candidate, who captured 41% of the vote in the first round of the new state’s ranked-choice vote system. Palin and Begich gained 31% and 28%, respectively...

Peltola needs a spoiler. Begich is her man.

I’d say they were close enough in votes that they should flip a coin with the loser dropping out.

Probably Murkowski’s stooge.

Plenty of Dems switched over to kill off Palin. But I do believe she will win the actual election.

For a state with such a small population, Alaska is surprisingly corrupt politically.

Those two should at least come together and inform their supporters to do the following: Vote Begich-1 and Palin-2 or Palin-1 and Begich-2.

This would avoid the spoiler effect from exhausted votes. If about 60% of those exhausted votes were for Palin, she would have won.

I hate ranked choice voting but we have to adapt to it for the time being.

He’s a paid spoiler. It’s impossible for her to “get through” to him.

Alaskans weren’t familiar with how RCV worked before the results came out. Now they are. Palin will likely win outright in November.

I think it was another stolen one. The same 81 million people that voted for Biden refused to pull the lever for her (their former governor).

This is a house seat.

My big concern is getting rid of Murkowski.

Since no candidate got 50%, there ought to have been an automatic runoff with the two leading candidates.

If Begish dropped out, his supporters will vote for their second choice. Palin didn’t fetch enough of his voters second choices to win the special. Palin needs to appeal to more of Begish’s voters, to mark her as their second choice to win against the Democrat.

I suggest the way to do this is to make a joint appearance with Begish and ask all Republicans to mark Republicans as both their first AND second choice.

You are assuming that Begich has any interest at all at helping Palin win the seat. Isn't there bad feelings between the two and doesn't Palin have some issues with Alaska voters?

He screwed up there, but he was sure right about spreading our legs for the mexicans...

Palin is a thumb in the eye of the Democrats and their Media at the NATIONAL level.

One of these two things is possible - either Begich is so politically stupid that he doesn't know or understand that [in which case he shouldn't be anywhere near politics], or he's an Assistant Democrat, Assisting Peltola to pick up a seat for Pelosi.

The Republican National Committee should have already made the private call to Begich to drop out and help Palin get the seat.

I'll be watching this closely to determine if I will ever bother to vote in American "elections" again.

The choice of two flavors of the same Party is still the same Party.
