When the Russian retreat from Kherson, which spin will you find most palatable from Moscow?
A) It was always a clever feint to get our forces destroyed on this unimportant axis of advance.
B) Kherson has been returned to the Ukrainian people as a gesture of goodwill from the Russian armed forces.
If it is something else, I'd like to hear it before the defeat so we can compare notes.
Nonsense...the Russian advance on Kiev accomplished the goal of getting Ukraine to seriously negotiate a settlement, and it almost succeeded in ending the war.
But for the interference of the US/UK at the 11th hour Russia would have withdrawn all its forces to pre-Feb 24th lines, and its pull back from the areas around Kiev at the end of March was the beginning of the that effort...a gesture of good will.
However after meeting with Boris Johnson in early April, Zelenski cut off all negotiations, and a week later the Russians moved on and announced the next phase of their Special Military Operation, which was the liberation of Eastern Ukraine and the destruction of the Ukraine Army in Donbas.

When the Russian flee Kherson, what do you think will be Moscow's excuse? That the move toward Nikolaev and Odessa beyond were really just a clever feint? Or will you buy that the Russian retreat from Kherson is just a 'goodwill gesture'? How do you think they'll spin the reversal?

You seem to believe that many Russians are against this conflict, and you may be right. If Russia is as bad as you believe it to be, will the press lie to the people, like our press did about Vietnam to sway public opinion against the war? We were winning the Vietnam war. The North Vietnamese did not defeat us. The press did that with their lies. Will the press in Russia replicate that tactic to lose in Ukraine?
Because that is really the only way Russia gets defeated.

The press in Russia right now is trying to convince their public that they’re winning. Any editor trying to tell the Russian people they’re not winning is liable to slip in front of a hospital window.
