The red lighting is a curious choice. No detail goes un focus grouped these days so you have to wonder what was the intent? What connections were they invoking? The Dems are expert dog whistlers so you know the choice of visuals wasn’t done casually. They are building a theme and this was a highly intentional laying of groundwork to that end.
They may be actors in costume.
Of course it was divisive. The most powerful US political blather always claims to be not divisive and then says why opponents are shit. The nature of politics is subterfuge, manipulation and division.

People are making too big a deal about lighting, etc. The attempt was to invole patriotic imagery and then to rlly the faithful by saying the opposition is evil. The dems have been good at this for nearly a century while the Gopers look like store manikins and make some squeaks about socialism. The only Goper I ever saw try and make a real case for his cause was Barry Goldwater in 1964 and the Gopers hated him only in part for his message , but also because he he made a strongly principaled appeal in an intellectual manner but using normal man in the street speech. This terrified and enraged the non-intellectual, stand pat, fence straddling political culture of the GOP. Unhappily, this is what BMG became himself latter in life.Other than be upset his queer nephew could not marry ‘the one he loved’.
