Total BS analogy! Abortion is a fringe because it was last on the list of priorities for voters and with one stupid decision, just killed any chance of making inroads with a key voting block! Also, when Democrats say “republicans will take away gay marriage” or any other right as they see it, they will believe it because of this one decision. Wake up! We need the religious right at the moment but were turning people to the dark side by the numbers every day. We cannot appeal to those ready to come to our side by wanting to end gay marriage or abortion however so your side is going to have to capitulate.
The religious right is also known for sitting out key elections because candidates do not meet their ultra high standards!
I suspect, having listened to people where I live talk, that many are getting fed up with the religious right seemingly dictating our laws nowadays. If they don’t like a book they demand it be removed from a school or a library. I will NOT support this kind of fanatical censorship...from either side.
The more the far right wing of the Republican party tries to control legislatures and by inference the people, the less support they will gain or maintain.
And if those voters want to sit out an election because the candidates do say or do exactly as the far right or ultra religious conservatives wants...no big loss in my opinion.
As of this point in time I am not going to donate any more money to the Republican party until they stat acting like they want to win and that they will tell the Qanon and proud boys section to stfu.
Democrats can win races by pointing out how our side has passed all these trigger laws and seemingly done so without really consulting the voters in their states. So I will not be surprised in the least if the Democrats win more seats on the national level and the state level.
“Total BS analogy! Abortion is a fringe because it was last on the list of priorities for voters...”
Popularity with voters is not the basis of my analogy. But you didn’t answer the question. Would you have considered it a fringe issue in the early 1800s or not?
“We need the religious right at the moment but were turning people to the dark side by the numbers every day.”
You need the religious right period, unless you want to be a permanent minority party. You had better accept that, or you can go with the Romney/Cheney wing and into obsolescence and obscurity. This is a civilization battle and there are only 2 sides in the fight, so choose wisely.
