Spent quite a few hours in “big windys” (or “s***t hooks”) in 95-96 as a flight surgeon in Korea. Surprisingly, they were the fastest chopper in the Army inventory at the time. Don’t know if that’s still the case

Must be a maintenance issue. Too many woke training sessions and not enough work.

When I see stories like this, or the "supply chain crisis" or the "baby formula shortage" I know that Trump would call the right people and bark the right orders, and the problem would be solved in record time for government work.

Of course, with Trump in charge, these problems and many others might never have materialized in the first place.

“A Honeywell spokesman said the engine maker worked with the Army to determine that certain components known as O-rings didn’t meet the company’s design specifications. He said the parts were installed during routine maintenance at an Army facility”

O-rings.......NASA can tell you how critical they are.

This all falls with wiping out our military supplies and response ability.

If anything thats what Ukraine is all about. So we don’t have an arsenal of various weapons to defend ourselves anymore.

Golly gee, those Chinook “workhorses and staples of the fleet” are practically NEW!

Thank goodness we’re not like those backward Orc Russians, relying on old obsolete stuff!

Those Chinooks are state of the art!

This seeming story is bunk - there is something going on under the covers.

With the fall of Baghdad, this is the worst time to ground anything. Same for F-35’s over ejection seats a mere few weeks ago.

bidAn is being maneuvered into the 2022 version of Afghanistan and Kabul. Total seeming incompetency, grounding stuff that would have been extremely useful to evacuate some territory.

With emphasis on ‘seeming’.

It isn’t the first time hookers have been grounded. There was an incident at an early ‘80’s German (I think) airshow where one carrying jumpers had the drive train cease up. It was nasty. That resulted in a world wide grounding. They blamed the c-box. The drive train forward to aft was pulled and inspected. I was crewing Chinooks in the 101st at the time. We had engines eating themselves when I was in Korea.

Does that include Nat. Guard Chinooks?

They are used a lot in search and rescue and in evacuations from floods and fires.

The Chair Force just grounded their Osprey’s due to a “clutch” problem and now the Army is grounding their Chinooks..... hmmmmmmmmm .....

Oh I get it...

It’s about time for some generals to retire and find jobs as “advisors” and “consultants” for Boeing since they’re involved with BOTH of those machines.... funny, huh?

I figure they see Trump or a Republican taking over after the Republicans take the house..... so musical chairs and flag officers are racing to the money trough of top 10 defense contractors...before the swamp gets drained....

Top 10 largest defense contractors in FY2021:

Lockheed Martin Corp.
Obligations: $40.2B

Boeing Co.
Obligations: $22.1B

Raytheon Technologies Corp.
Obligations: $20.7B

General Dynamics Corp.
Obligations: $17.8B

Pfizer Inc.
Obligations: $13.3B

Northrop Grumman Corp.
Obligations: $12.9B

Huntington Ingalls Industries Inc.
Obligations: $7.4B

Humana Inc.
Obligations: $7.1B

Moderna Inc.
Obligations: $6.9B

Regeneron Pharmaceuticals Inc.
Obligations: $5.6B

Isn’t it all so..... funny... how DOD put Pfizer, Moderna, Humana and Regeneron in the “Defense” budget.... just so, so funny.

Here we go again.

China-made counterfeit parts found in US military aircraft: Senate
By Greg Waldron 21 May 2012

The US Senate Armed Services Committee has issued a report stating that China is a major source of counterfeit electronic components found on aircraft such as the L-3 Communications/Alenia C-27J, Lockheed Martin C-130J and Boeing P-8A.

The committee’s investigation discovered 1,800 cases of counterfeit parts, with the total number of individual parts involved exceeding 1 million, the Senate Armed Services committee said in a statement.

“Our report outlines how this flood of counterfeit parts, overwhelmingly from China, threatens national security, the safety of our troops and American jobs,” says committee chairman senator Carl Levin.

“It underscores China’s failure to police the blatant market in counterfeit parts - a failure China should rectify.”

The 112 page report details how counterfeit parts made their way into several high profile programmes.

Oregon Defense Contractor Charged with Providing Counterfeit Parts

An Oregon defense contractor is under indictment for allegedly defrauding the military of at least $10.5 million by supplying counterfeit and defective truck and helicopter parts

An Oregon defense contractor is under indictment for allegedly defrauding the military of at least $10.5 million by supplying counterfeit and defective truck and helicopter parts

Kustom Products, Inc., a Coos Bay, Ore., company as well as its owner Harold Ray Bettencourt and other family members and employees are charged in an indictment filed last week in U.S. District Court in Portland.

According to the indictment, Bettencourt, obtained substandard parts from unapproved sources then gave false information to the Department of Defense and federal investigators. He also directed others to provide fictitious invoices and purchase orders, the government alleges.

All of the alleged criminal offenses took place before Dec. 1, 2010, prosecutors said.

Among the charges related to the alleged fraud are conspiracy to commit wire fraud, conspiracy to traffic in counterfeit good and conspiracy to commit money laundering.

Many of the bids made by the company were through web-based programs, according to the indictment.

The latest charges raises the value of contracts covered from $7.5 million listed in a 2011 indictment. Arraignment has been set for April 30.
