Athlone cafe owner shocked after getting €9,000 electricity bill: ‘Things are only going to get worse’ (Ireland)
Irish Times ^ | 8-30-22 | Conor Pope

The owner of a small coffee shop in the centre of Athlone was shocked when she opened her electricity bill this week and realised she had been charged almost €10,000 for just over two months of energy usage.

The cost of electricity to the Poppyfields cafe for 73 days from early June until the end of August came in at €9,024.70 an increase of 250 per cent in just 12 months. There doesn’t include the €812.22 in VAT, which brought her total bill to €9,836.92.

It has left Geraldine Dolan wondering if she will be able to continue running the business she has owned for the last 16 years as Ireland heads into what is certain to be a winter of rising energy prices and cost of living spikes.

Well, that’s it for Poppyfields Cafe. No way the owners can sustain that sort of bill.

Exactly, it is a terribly small price to pay to support Ukraine.

They should be happy to spend oodles more than that! After all, Ukraine, and the EU, fought against the Crimean takeover so well.

I remember the German leader Merkel being astonished at Trump's cautionary words. She said the EU’s approach to handling Russia, even after Crimea's takeover, was rock solid and there were absolutely no concerns, thanks to cheap and thorough fallback sources of energy with solar and wind.

This is not an issue for anyone in the EU or England, by their constant admissions.

Tucker had a segment on the UK and Europe the other night, and the bills they’re facing this upcoming winter. I’m pretty sure he said they’re estimating 70% of pubs or businesses will close this winter, because they won’t be able to pay their (energy) bills.

It’s going to get ugly...

That is horrifying.
My wife said the Brits live at their pubs. They just sleep at home.

dynachrome :" But, but, we need to save ukraine./s "

Obviously she needs more Chinese solar panels on her roof to offset her electrical expenses
Expect more of the same as Europe, and the economy goes bankrupt .. "to save ukraine"
Al; the time while Russia continues to be bankrolled by natural gas wells and petroleum production
Good Call by Brandon for all our former allies !
.. and especially to benefit the WEF !
But Brandon expects us to willingly accept and electric economy when we can barely control our GRID now,
and even that is with less than 4% of electric vehicles.
Imagine what happens when all the vehicles come online for refueling ? Ours is a petroleum economy run by the 'clown car' in Washington who have no idea of consequence of stupid and idiotic decisions.

Wait until the Russians make some “peaceful territorial requests” of the EU.

Don’t think of it as suffering. This of it as next-level virtue signaling.
