Government exploring options to increase security for ministers after Freeland confronted in Alberta

The RCMP protect the prime minister around the clock, but cabinet ministers are not generally given a protective detail unless they’re facing a specific threat. In Ottawa, ministers have access to a car and driver, but that is not considered to be a substitute for a security detail.

Mendicino said he was concerned about the level of safety for all politicians and said everything was on the table.

“We will continue to explore all options. We work very closely with the RCMP with the sergeant at arms with all of the local and regional police services who offer protection.”

On Twitter, Conservative MP Gérard Deltell said it was time to offer proper security to cabinet minister when they are out in public.

Mendicino said the number of threats against politicians is on the rise and he is concerned it is impacting the democratic process more broadly. He said there has to be room for disagreements without such hostility.

“We’re at a very sensitive juncture in our politics right now. And we need to bring the temperature down.” he said.

“We’re at a very sensitive juncture in our politics right now. And we need to bring the temperature down.”

Translation: “We ‘progressives’ are in power now and any dissenting must be squelched.”

"There's absolutely no place for the kind of in 14thtimidation, harassment and downright threats that she and her staff are subjected to," That's the government's job, to do to the citizens.

"He said there has to be room for disagreements without such hostility."

Of course when you freeze the bank accounts of those you disagree with there should be no expectations of hostility, right?

Or having goons brought in who run over an old lady with a horse....

One would think they these people would be smart enough to understand that if they were honestly working for the people. Most of this would never happen.

Since the Canadian government, much like ours. No longer works for us. This will continue.

"“We’re at a very sensitive juncture in our politics right now. And we need to bring the temperature down. We need to have big debates. That’s one of the hallmarks of our democracy,” he said."

You amply demonstrated your interest in debate by your actions in Ottawa.

And is that "sensitive juncture" code for "we haven't been able to 'pacify' an electorate that refuses to bow".

Well that tends to happen when stupid politicians nonchalantly threaten peoples homes, businesses, farms, and livelihoods.

Good that these tyrants are now so paranoid about the hatred of them by their own citizens, they believe they need an army of goons to protect them.

Tyrants always need thugs to keep the people away.

It works for a while. Until it doesn’t. See Romania, 1989.
