Germany: Gas storage filling up faster than expected ahead of winter

German Economy Minister Robert Habeck said that targets set by the government for the filling of gas storage facilities had been reached ahead of schedule, staving off the worst fears of severe gas shortages this winter.

"The reservoirs are filling up quicker than planned," he told German magazine Der Spiegel according to a report published on Sunday.

The government target of reaching 85% storage capacity by October could be achieved by the beginning of September, according to Habeck's ministry.

Germany is currently trying to secure alternative sources of gas to prevent an acute shortage during the cold winter months, as it tries to wean itself off Russian fuel following the invasion of Ukraine.

“ A lot of people here have already cut their energy use”

We have a saying about everybody chipping in to get a big task done “Many hands makes for light work”

I also like the African saying, “You can travel faster alone, but further together.”

Getting free of Russian energy dependence is a big job, but Germany really is moving at “Tesla Speed” to get it done.

I saw that a 26 Km pipeline was being built to the storage site from the big new LNG Port at Willhelmshaven. Normally, it is a six year process, but it is on track to carry gas by year’s end. Accomplishments like that have been occurring throughout the huge and challenging Program underway, to free Germany from Putin’s energy weapon. It reflects great credit on German competence, character and resolve.

The bloodthirsty dictator Putin won’t have German money to fund his bombing of civilians in European cities, and Germany won’t be vulnerable to his blackmail and bullying any more.

It is a great effort, that is going to have a great Strategic effect.

I like to toast bread right on top of the woodstove. There’s this one spot that gets just the right temperature. Although these days I’m not sure that’ll work, I have a cat that loves to steal bread :/

It’s your war of invasion, that you are supporting, so why are you not fighting it?
If it were up to me there would be no war.

It's often that people with simple lifestyles make the best sense.
Thanks for sharing that.

You shouldn’t eat preground beef that has been sitting but freshly chopped/ground beef is fine and served all day long in some of the finest restaurants on Earth.

Clean the surface, chop off the edges and grind right before eating so there is no chance for bacteria to grow

Hopefully there will be enough firewood to go around.

Not everyone lives near the schwarzwald. 🤪👍 The whole time I lived in Germany, I never once saw a wood burning stove. Doesn’t mean there aren’t any. I just never saw any. 😆😀🧐

There are two complicated parts to the story.

First, do you have a normal-moderate winter, or a severe winter? Last year, I would describe as fairly moderate.

Second, there are two ways that the use of natural gas figures the consumption. Roughly half of homes/apartments use natural gas for heat. Around 10-to-12 percent of the national grid consumes natural to produce power (backing-up solar and wind). If you lessen the grid situation (by using coal/nuke power longer), then you would save on use of gas for power production.

None of this big picture discussion is really understood by the political establishment.

In addition some gas-powered central heating plants can be easily converted to use heating oil.

As a matter of reality and not rhetoric -

Annual cyclical commodity energy trend line market prices have been right in line with normal trends.

Even while price is higher. However, way off the annual highs for sure.

Energy in general is still high, but way off the typical May/June high’s, so some relief for sure.

Now, right in line, expecting some bounce into late late SEP/mid NOV before another significant drop.

Those are average annuals as well, so not specific to a uear/month/week/day/hour/min trading of course.

But you are also correct, Germany was one the most exposed industrial power of Eutope, and they are on track to absorb the Russian hit. 🇺🇸

There’s lots of options, but presently....time is working against them, and no one can predict where the Russia war business will end up. Add to this...you have environmentalists trying to hinder anything that is not renewable.

What I do anticipate by December...a lot of regulations in place, and a quarter of society marginally being able to afford electricity (increasing monthly) or their heat. I noticed some news piece over the weekend...’robbery’ of public forest wood now being reported. You can go out into a public forest, with a permit for x-amount of firewood. Reports adding up where people avoid the permit business.

Just wait. It will be a very mild winter and Germany and Europe will do just fine. Then March first, Putin will croak.

If Gods chosen, “The apple of my [God’s] eye” comes online, (and they could quicker than most know), they could technically provide 25-35% of all European energy from their Leviathon and Tamar fields for hundreds of years, and that is without the UAE/SA/Israeli pipeline.

Expect Russia/Putin and his Iranian/Houthi proxies to intensify attacks on SA/UAE/Israel, or possibly whoever succeeds Putin, in order to try and block, to attack, and to take Israel’s East Mediterranean and Jezreel Valley energy goliaths, and to try and block UAE/SA/Israel pipelines and even soon planned mass agriculture production and desalinization projects. SA is going all in like Israel, and with Israel on their NW Red Sea Coast. 🇺🇸

They've replenished the burnable furniture storage facilities since The '45.

I hear they're at 85%.

In my area there was guy the used to drive around in a pick-up truck that would buy up all if the old furniture(for very little $$$) as long as it wasn’t particle board. He would then process it into fire wood for his own consumption. Cheaper that cord wood in this area. I pointed out to him that there was all kinds of noxious chemical used in furniture product. He just shrugged.

What are you paying for electricity Berlin_Freeper? Does it feel like winning?

If Russia cuts off the gas in October there will not be enough in storage to do diddly squat and Germany’s economy will crater.

Personally, my energy bill was 80 euros and my daughter just started private school costing 600 euros a month.

I hope that helps with your high blood pressure.
