Can't beat anthracite coal. No splitting, stacking, etc. Small space to store a lot of coal. Never have to get up in the middle of the night to feed the stove. Clean burning - no smoke. Efficient - some coal stoves are 90% efficient. No creosote. Bone warming radiant heat that can't be matched with modern junk.

I still remember the pile of anthracite my grandpa had out back. for the pot belly. Only had REA electric. Well water, out house. Took baths in a galvanized tub as a little boy.

My brother burns coal in his stove and likes it a lot better than wood pellets. He didn’t like the price per pallet he got last week. The price more than doubled from last year. Wood pellets also went way up.
