It’s a tourist cash cow. The British monarchy makes the country about $2bln a year in tourism and merchandise. That doesn’t count the intangibles and derivative products, like TV shows and movies.
The brand is one of the most recognizable in the world and makes money with both good and horrible press that would destroy other brands.
> The British monarchy is truly fascinating, but its current iteration is a useless tradition. <
Out of curiosity I looked it up. The last time a British monarch withheld royal assent was in 1708. Since then they have not interfered with Parliament at all. Some might argue that’s a good thing. But I tend to agree with you.
If a monarch does nothing but stand around and wave from a balcony, what’s the purpose of the monarchy?
Of course it’s all up to the Brits. If the want to continue to fund that bunch, go for it.
In the U.S., we have the Democrat’s “kissing booty” with the Iranian Ayatollahs and the Chi-Coms.
More importantly, America is now plagued with massive Democrat Kissing Black Ass to maintain control of the City States that depend on Black corruption to survive
Maybe you could keep an eye out for King Momo, King of Carnival in Brazil.

Usually King Momo is an excellent dancer, one of his primary roles.
Many moons ago I read a very entertaining novel in which the current royal family was booted — dethroned — when the monarchy was abolished. The family Windsor had to fend for themselves among the common folk. Some fit right in, donning “trainers” and sweats and learning the lingo of the lower class. Others tried in vain to maintain that stiff upper lip. . . . I wish I could remember the title or author . . .
I have as much interest in British Royalty as I have in the Kardashians.
I was shouting at the TV in parts:
“Quit whining, Phillip! You KNEW she was going to be Queen when you married her! Yeesh!”
“Quit whining, you thrown-abdicating SHIRKER! You KNEW the deal when you ran off with 4-time loser Wallace Simpson!”
LOL!
“Today’s royals are mere zoo animals.”
They would do better if they would resolve to run the Firm like a real professional business rather than a dysfunctional family firm. They are probably limited as to what they can do to curb the behavior of a problematic heir (the politicians managed to boot Edward VIII, thankfully), but any other working royal (Halfwit, MeGain, Andrew, Margaret) who becomes an embarrassment, who is indiscreet or who bullies staff should be pensioned off right away, never to represent the monarchy or the UK again, and if they can’t keep their traps shut about the family, excluded from all family events.
Dear Debbie Downer: If Republicans screw this one up, it’s on them. Not because I’m watching a TV historical drama.
“The Crown” is family safe and very entertaining. Have you seen “Mr. Selfridge” or “Dr. Thorne”? Oh, and “Polkark” They are all as good a Downton Abbey IMHO.
So far, family friendly. I’m just in the 2nd season. Teens and above would maybe like it, if they like History. Slow paced, but each episode thoroughly handles one crisis or another. It’s won tons of prime-time Emmy awards.

Looks like the cast changes as The Queen ages, which makes sense. Gillian Anderson in later seasons! Yay!
Ping/message me if you remember the title. :)
a ten-week holiday...
from, wut???
ya gotta love it
I have watched the first three seasons of “The Crown,” and the most non-family safe sections involve Margaret’s racy courtship with Anthony Armstrong-Jones (and her affair with Roddy Llewellyn to a lesser extent), Anne’s short dalliance with Andrew Parker-Bowles, and a blue remark David makes to Wallis in the bedroom.
There is nothing to suggest a Charles III would even rise to the low standards of Charles II.
