California has moved to ban sales of carbon dioxide-emitting vehicles by 2035. That is fine in theory but it raises two questions: Can we? And should we?
The answer from the tradition auto industry might surprise many investors. It’s a resounding yes to both.
The auto industry’s relationship with the California Air Resources Board, or CARB, hasn’t always been, well, as agreeable. The relationship is littered with fines for noncompliant vehicles and litigation related to emissions standards. Back in 2001, General Motors challenged CARB emission regulations in court.
These days, the auto industry and CARB appear to be in lockstep. Ford Motor issued a statement following the announcement that CARB was moving to eliminate gasoline-powered cars. “At Ford , combating climate change is a strategic priority, and we’re proud of our partnership with California,” said Bob Holycross, chief sustainability officer at Ford. “We’re committed to building a zero-emissions transportation future that includes everyone, backed by our own investments of more than $50 billion by 2026 in EVs and batteries.”

I’m speculating that this will turn out like Obamacare and Solar.
They sold their souls and sold us out.
Oil industry tax take will take a very big hit
One of Toyota’s top executives has said we do not yet have the technology for all electric fleets. Considering gas is 100 times more energy dense than the best batteries he’s right.
Fed gov didn’t manage to force us to buy insurance, and the power of the insurance companies couldn’t either. Why would the car companies be able to do it now?
Even Elon Musk has said we can’t support going all EVs right away.
A Deal was made and Ford/GM will get all the bailouts they want
Even Elon Musk has said we can’t support going all EVs right away.
I don’t care I just don’t want to submit to these Terrorists because they’ll NEVER STOP
Battery powered cars are bullshit from a true cost/gain perspective, even with extrapolated/anticipated battery technology for the time being.
No amount of state propaganda will change that.
How does a family go on vacation, driving to the Grand Canyon or Mt. Ranier? Every 300 miles you have to charge for six hours. Shave four days off your round trip just for charging.
Right. When I heard they were starting to sink loads of money into EV research a few years ago and the Feds were helping with encouragement funding, I knew we were in deep trouble.
I say Ford and GM can shove their policy up their tailpipes.
Metaphorically speaking.
So basically... CARB is regulating themselves out of a job.
A very hard dose of reality is coming to America once we get Blackrock out of the oval office.
Even butanol fuel cell technology would more promising, but the game is selling out to China.
I buy gas once every 2 or 3 weeks and only $30 so would I have to charge an EV everyday even if I don’t use it ?
“”a zero-emissions transportation future that includes everyone””
Everyone? Are they nuts? Or are they going to FORGIVE loans to buy these expensive electric vehicles and just give them away? The government pays the manufacturers with OUR MONEY?
CARB carries more weight in CA than the CA legislature just like the Coastal Commission. It takes a lot to fight each of them.
The California Air Resources Board will simply change their charter to regulating ‘green’ vehicles.
The lefties have it all figured out.
“”I’m speculating that this will turn out like Obamacare and Solar.””
Any faults in either is being corrected in Biden’s Inflation Reduction bill - never worry!!!
Everyone just needs to keep chanting:
