I know they are currently getting away with forbidding older diesel trucks from even entering CA.
I really do not think they have that power under the interstate commerce clause, but it seems no one is calling them out on it.
I escaped Kali-fornicate-ya in 1989.
NOTHING would entice me to return.
Sadly, every sane person who flees makes it that much harder on those who remain.

I believe it is Emissions related.

I have a friend in CA, with a Peterbuilt, parked for the last few years. Runs fine. To renew his liscence, he would have to have $8K of work/mods done to it. Even then I don’t know if he could get the cool “California Clean Idle” sticker.

California’s 5-minute Idling Rules are Enforced Know the rules and your options Trucks can idle for 5 minutes everywhere in California. Any law enforcement department, including air districts and CARB, can fine a 10,000 pound or greater truck owner and driver up to $1000 per day for illegal idling (13 CCR 2480 & 2485).
