After Six Months of War in Ukraine, Momentum Tilts Against Russia
WSJ ^ | 23-AUG-2022 | Marcus Walker

Posted on 08/23/2022 7:09:26 AM PDT by SpeedyInTexas

Six months after Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine, signs are accumulating that the balance on the military and economic battlefields is slowly tilting the way of Kyiv and its Western backers. ... Some results of the war already seem settled. Russian President Vladimir Putin’s attempt to rewrite the ending of the Cold War by restoring Moscow’s historic sphere of influence in Eastern Europe has failed. His war on Ukraine has instead united almost all of Europe against him, revivifying the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, which is poised to add Sweden and Finland as new members.

Those Chinese tires Russia traded for oil didn’t hold up very well under Ukranian winter driving conditions either. Will be interesting to see how General Mud and King Winter work for Russian troops this winter. An interest factoid about Alexander Dugin, in addition to fomenting importance of separating UK and US from European cooperation, he also said that Russia would have to control China to achieve their giant Eurasia country from Belfast to Vladivostok.

I watch Defense Policy Asia from Singapore daily

Good program...I'd also recommend the Military Summary channel for similar content.

Correction. Russia is not the #2 military in the world. They’re the #2 military in Ukraine.

...embarassed itself on the world stage...
________________________________________

The world, including the Atlantic Alliance, the Pacific AngloSphere and the EU is trading with Russia.

They throttle the weaponry donated to Ukraine.

What irks them is that Russia thrives, due to self-sufficiency and also is actively leading a counter Alliance that is actually setting up their own financial system without barring _anyone_ from participating. Success is the best revenge?

I read around the web. Comments from all over the world are to the effect that America, the Western Central Banks and the petrodollar are failing. NATO should have *won* (whatever that may be) handily. They did not.

Because they want to continue this war of attrition until Russia either joins them or is provoked into something horrendously catastrophic? IDK (no one really does),but the churn of war/arms supply/energy royalties/whatever, is obviously sufficient for the West to continue without *victory*.

Ousting Putin would be a pyrrhic victory since those waiting behind him are much less restrained. But he has gotten their goat and made it personal for the West. Historically, that indicates the biggest error will come from the West.

And the SMO grinds ever onward costing Ukraine and it’s backers dearly.

This may be about showing the world the advantage of US armament. But no one needs to buy them because the US simply sends them and they get sold/liberated and are distributed God only knows where.

Honestly, it doesn’t look to be a quagmire for Russia and they don’t appear to be humiliated. (Speaking as a member of the audience watching the world stage)

See that’s the insane thing about that Orc - if any one controls anything, it will be China controlling Russia up to the gates of Moskva.

Ok, perhaps my new sources are not complete.

Please point me to where Russia is destroying US supplied missiles or conducting raids on Ukrainian ammo depots because I am not seeing it in the news.

Right, cause after six months the Russians are conducting a blitzkrieg through Ukraine and not stuck in some WW1 style slug-fest war of attrition.

“ Those Chinese tires Russia traded for oil didn’t hold up very well under Ukranian winter driving conditions either.”

I’ve heard this same thing from different sources.

The countries that Reagan freed were much of the muscle of the Russian empire, now they are in NATO facing the fading old country of Russia and saying “never again”.

The “Wall Street Journal”..... Ohhhh, sooo impressive ! ! ! !

Ukraine is not even a NATO member... I’ve had about enough of the “Cold War” spending... Americans need monetary help more than some corrupt Govt. in Africa, or Asia, or the Ukraine...

The real basis for the invasion is resource control.

That tells me Dugin doesn’t just look the part, he really is a nutcase. No way in Hades will Russia control China. But, as the Euros wean themselves off Russian energy (will take maybe 5 years to complete, plus or minus a couple depending on the USA), Russia will desperately need China as its primary customer, and will need a gargantuan Chinese contribution with the infrastructure, too. But the Chinese will NOT fall into the trap the way the Euro’s did. They will keep other options open, which is why the Chinese are trying to rob resources in places like the South China Sea.

Euros will never wean themselves off Russian energy because it lets them keep up their green energy charade.

Srednik points out the military verity that to repulse an invasion is considered a victory. Monocacy. Antietam. Gettysburg. While Confederate arms proved potent, these three invasions of the North were repulsed. Ergo, the were Union victories. That Ukraine is intact deserves more eloquent praise from WSJ than “tilting in their favor.”

BTW - Consider that considerable oil and gas reserves were discovered in Donbas and Crimea just before RasPutin invaded in 2014. Get the picture?
