Trump Had More Than 300 Classified Documents at Mar-a-Lago

The initial batch of documents retrieved by the National Archives from former President Donald J. Trump in January included more than 150 marked as classified, a number that ignited intense concern at the Justice Department and helped trigger the criminal investigation that led F.B.I. agents to swoop into Mar-a-Lago this month seeking to recover more, multiple people briefed on the matter said.

In total, the government has recovered more than 300 documents with classified markings from Mr. Trump since he left office, the people said: that first batch of documents returned in January, another set provided by Mr. Trump’s aides to the Justice Department in June and the material seized by the F.B.I. in the search this month.

Kind of off the subject but since Trump was President and did see a lot of classified stuff when he came out and said Marilyn Monroe died of an overdose and was not murdered was his statement because he saw the classified records on her death?

Always wondered about this.

The operative phrasing of this story is 300 plus documents “marked classified” an illusion of theft of classified documents is being created by the New York Times in its story.

President Trump said on social media tonight that all documents at Mar-a-Lago were declassified.

Marked as classified means nothing. Declassified documents do not magically lose their classified markings once they’ve been declassified.

Also a president can declassify whatever he wants whenever he wants. If Trump chose to declassify it, then its declassified.

The latest Supreme Court justice said exactly that in a ruling on a FOIA case brought against Clinton after he’d left office.

Compared to what Clintoon had (along with Weiner and his wife had), what Trump had looks like a Pizza Hut receipt.

Seriously. Supposed to sound like an impressive number, but I agree with you it’s not

They were not classified after he declassified them. A fact the news, FBI, DOJ and courts are all ignoring.

When I was in the navy, an issue of Time magazine was in the classified reading room because it had an article about the Vietnam War in it.

Obviously, a magazine widely distributed among the public does not contain secrets that could compromise national security.

So, saying that 150 classified items were seized from Trump’s home doesn’t mean much.

It is classified material so how could lawyers at the DOJ have any clue what to be concerned about?   No Justice Department lackey should even have access to classified material to be able to make a judgement.

I let mine expire too.   I could have made high six figures if I had wanted to go the middle east as a contractor but I wanted to stay married.   Once or twice my company had government accounts openings where I would have had to get it reactivated but like you said, not worth the hassle.

Well Operation Hurricane was a huge hoax…. I am sure there are thousands of “top secret” docs associated with it.

So what? He’s a President he has the highest security clearance. Kash Patel said all that stuff at Mara-Lago had been declassed but some of the folders may not have had the classified marking vs removed yet.

With the laws they’re trying to get him with, it doesn’t matter whether they were declassified or not.

So if none of the documents are classified then all should be able to be released to the media? Fire up the FOIA applications!

What a hack news aggregator site. So lazy and dishonest that they won’t even attribute the article.
