“I told my neighbor down the street to stop parking on the sidewalk, because his next-door neighbor is 94 and uses a walker when her assistant walks her up and down the block. She had to go around his F-150 truck into the street.”

That is obstruction. He is lucky you all get along good enough not to call the police instead.

No different than Kameltoes Harris’s old man parking and blocking disabled parking spaces a couple weeks ago.

I suggest they keep the gasoline engine technology available because the green “wet dream” is stupidity on steroids.

You suggest that because you have common sense. They don’t and never will.

Give me a break. Much of this ADA stuff is pure BS. I live near a major university campus core. I've lived here for thirty years and haven't come across a disabled person outside of the campus core. The city has put in many ADA crosswalks over the years to meet ADA standards. Evidently there are no standards when tree roots push up sidewalks and make them somewhat impassible for the slightly disabled..

Give you a break? For what?

It's a county law here against parking on the sidewalk. People disobey it, they get ticketed if the cops are called. I told my neighbor I wouldn't call the cops on him, allowing him a courtesy warning. And that neighbor with the jacked-up F-150 truck has a disabled placard and license plate, for a leg injury that happened years ago but he is recovered. He'll park in disabled spots despite being able to quickly walk his dog around the neighborhood every day. He takes advantage of others, while causing discomfort to others.

Sorry if this bothers you, but I've seen disabled people needlessly suffer. Some 20 years ago, a neighbor across the street in a wheelchair had to go into the street around cars parked on the sidewalk. A passing cop ticketed him for riding his wheelchair into the street! I went over and argued with the cop, but the cop was a jerk. Poor old guy died that year. Maybe someday you'll become disabled and gain some sympathy for handicapped people.

As a walker, I find it rather annoying when people block the sidewalk with their vehicles. I would never call the cops on them, and even if I did they would probably laugh at me. Cops are in short supply in my community. I live in an older residential area. Some of the sidewalks are really showing their age. A fair amount of the time I walk in the street because the sidewalks have tripping hazards from ground settling or tree roots pushing up the concrete. The sidewalks at street intersections are in fairly good shape. Some of this makes no sense to me. The city may replace a perfectly functional sidewalk at an intersection because of some updated ADA requirement but ignore the rest of the sidewalk.

I hear you, and understand the frustration of a local government not taking care of your needs (while taxing the crap out of you). I had a couple meetings with our new town manager (he had more power than the mayor who was appointed on a rotating basis from the town council members). I complained that the town did relatively nothing for our older neighborhood over the last couple decades, despite complaints about broken infrastructure. He said "That's not true, the city does a lot.". I said "Not on our street.". Soon after, the streets got repaved in our neighborhood, and trees got a haircut. We still have some broken sidewalks, and the town doesn't force owners to repair them but owners are patching cracks. Complaints to the police do get results in regards to bad actors (drunken neighbors making noise at 3am and punching others' cars, etc.). My daughter told me she would scrape against cars parked on the sidewalk when pushing her child's stroller - I told her that's dangerous and just call the cops; I understand her frustration but she takes it too far. We all have our frustrations born out of rude people and government not taking care of us, and unfortunately it's getting worse these days.

I guess it comes down to who pays for repairs. Living in Illinois, the state is broke as well as many cities. If it weren’t for the fed injection of funds nothing would be done..
