Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis calls on Republicans to unite around Doug Mastriano in visit to Pittsburgh
Pittsburgh Post-Gazette ^ | August 19, 2022 | JULIAN ROUTH

Posted on 08/19/2022 7:35:40 PM PDT by Timber Rattler

With one of the Republican Party’s most popular figures waiting in the wings to endorse him, Pennsylvania gubernatorial candidate Doug Mastriano took the stage at the Downtown Wyndham on Friday and -- sounding much like his special guest, Florida Gov. Ron Desantis — said the Democrats and their “acolytes” in the media are trying to distract Americans from the real issues.

The real issues, Mr. Mastriano said, are rising costs, inflation, gas prices and how Democrats are soft on crime, overbearing on businesses and parents with lockdowns and mandates and stuck on “defending male domination of female sports” — a topic he mentioned numerous times.

With a full ballroom looking on of more than 1,000 supporters, Mr. Mastriano, the state senator running against Democrat Josh Shapiro, said he represents a “people’s movement” and will remind Pennsylvanians of the laundry list of failed policies that Democrats have cultivated.

(snip)

Mr. DeSantis, an increasingly popular figure in the Republican Party who is seen by insiders as a model 2024 presidential candidate, talked up his record in Florida and framed his governorship as a battle against lockdowns and mandates, media narratives, wokeness and crime.

He called on Republicans to unite around Mr. Mastriano, no matter who they backed in the May primary, and said Pennsylvania might just be the “most important swing state in the country” — a title, to this point, given to his state, he said. What’s happening in Florida can happen here, Mr. DeSantis told the crowd.

I’ll go for Mastriano rather than see any of the old Pa has-beens continue to carry the wand.

I’ll be voting for Mastriano. Hopefully DeSantis helps add some enthusiasm.

Doug will make an excellent governor. But, did either man talk about the illegal alien invasion?

Mastriano is going to have to beat the Dems and the fact Republican establishment of PA will do nothing more than token support for him… he is clearly the underdog and if he pulls off the win it will be a major coup.

Wrong, I told everyone. In earshot that Trump was going to win Pa.. in fact I called him taking the entire rust belt with the exception of IL and Possibly MN in 2016..

You are welcome to search the archives here to validate.

i made that prediction well before Election Day when folks were still trying to argue Rubio or Cruz etc Were going to be the nominee.

And just as sure as I was Trump was going to take the trust belt in the summer of 16, I am sure OZ has no chance at winning statewide in PA.

Trump and Oz cannot be compared for obvious reasons - there’s one Trump. His campaigning is his own style and works for him along with his team. Oz doesn’t have Trumps team nor do others.

If or not you called it for Pa. makes no difference to me whatsoever...nor whn you did so.

Hamilton J how much are you getting paid to piss everybody off here? Mr. negativity your poor wife if you have one. There’s no gravity the whole world sucks please. We’re trying to formulate a winning strategy here and we hope to get John Fredericks to bring his radio show to Pennsyltucky . Hopefully he’ll do for Pennsylvania what he did for Virginia. Remember Virginia Hamilton J? John Fredericks went out on his own without Younkins approval.
