Why would conservatives want that removed? It’s a classic, true story. I don’t get this at all if true.

I don’t believe conservatives are behind this.

Read the other post about this, the left is extremely deceptive. This is a pornographic version of the Diary not the original version.

Other sources say it’s an illustrated comic book type adaptation based on a “secret version” of the diary.

I don’t get it either. Keller is a Conservative area. Makes no sense.

The article appears to be somewhat misleading. The book referenced is a specific edition, a graphic adaptation.

“Why would conservatives want that removed? It’s a classic, true story. I don’t get this at all if true.”

The book which has been requested to be removed is NOT The Diary of Anne Frank. It is a “graphic” version based on the real book.

The unedited version, I understand, is fairly pornographic. No offense to Anne, she was just a teenage girl.

The edited commercial version (which I read repeatedly as a child) is a great addition to any library.

“It’s a classic, true story.”

There are legitimate doubts about the complete authorship of the story. In particular the New York Supreme Court ordered payment of $50,000 to an author due to plagiarism in the diaries.

Don’t get me wrong here. I am very pro-Israel and I’ve known Holocaust survivors. But I prefer the truth over ginned up fairy tales and at least some of Frank’s diary is admittedly fictionalized by Frank herself.

That said, the fact is that it is not an entirely true story.

The first version of Anne Frank’s diary that was published in 1947, and in English in 1952. I read in the 1950’s & 60’s,. It was only later that it was revealed that the 1947 edition was was an edited version of her full diary, that left out the parts of her “sexual musings” and some other topics. I believe that the full, un-edited diary was published 10-20 years ago. I know my high school library (1960s) had a copy of her diary. Here is an article about the parts not published until around 2016

I can understand folks not wanting their children to be reading about those ‘newly’ revealed redactions of the 1947/1952 editions.

In short:

1. It is a fictional reimagined graphic novel (i.e. cheap comic book) wrapped around elements of the Anne Frank diary.
2. It portrays graphic homosexual scenes that are not based on the actual book, but inserted as imaginings/fantasy.

It is not the actual book.
It is an illustrated version of the book.
I have no idea what the illustrations show or why THIS version was banned

but people are jumping to conclusions that it is THE book

As is usually the case, it is all explained in the article at the link!

It’s a classic alright, but true? How do you know it’s true?
I certainly don’t know that, but I do remember reading years ago that her father was the co-author of it.
