Judge Roy was narrowly defeated because:
1. False charges of sexual misconduct; no credible evidence was brought forward and the charges went silent after the election. (He dated and married a legal adult who was about 15 years his Junior. This fact suddenly became a crime in eyes of many women-libers.)
2. Made enemies with the republican establishment, who then endorsed the democrat. He would have been difficult for McConnell to control.
3. He espoused strong traditional Christian values. This was too hard-lined for many in the agnostic mainstream, who can tolerate any type of behavior other than traditional Christian.
4. Likely voter fraud. He was leading by 7% and 5% in two separate polls taken just before the election. This lead was in spite of the barrage of outside-funded attacks from both Democrats and Republicans. Democrats bused voters from other states to places like Birmingham. Several precincts with about 100% turnout voted heavily for his democratic opponent (Jones).
Lets be honest, from the prospective of most Alabamians prior to this election business...considered Moore to be more of a ‘nut’ than anything else. It’s only that they have so few quality candidates for Senate seats or Governor these days...that Moore rose to the top level rather quickly.
On the positive side, no one can accuse Moore of being corrupted or in some hanky-panky scandal (like Gov Bentley was).
Rule #1 in politics: Don’t waste all your time and energy chasing votes among people who are going to vote for you anyway.
