The U.S. Senate race in Pennsylvania got a rocky start on all fronts — Democrat primary winner and current PA Lt. Governor John Fetterman was hospitalized following a stroke and started the final stretch of his midterm race in the hospital and at home recovering. On the GOP side, a recount ushered in uncertainty that eventually saw Mehmet Oz prevail following a messy primary that left him a bit wounded, politically.
But now, as both campaigns hit their stride with around 90 days until November's general election, Fetterman is shifting further to the left and is diving headlong into an embrace of the left's woke gender politics.
Earlier in August, Fetterman launched a "Real Doctors Against Doctor Oz" campaign offensive, despite the reality that Mehmet Oz is, in fact, a real doctor. The Fetterman campaign's launch of the group included a physician, Val Arkoosh, who also serves as the chair of the Montgomery County Commissioners and failed in her attempt to win the nomination for U.S. Senate against Fetterman. Arkoosh, during her primary campaign, made "trans rights" a cornerstone of her short-lived movement, which calls into question her status as a "real doctor" if being a doctor still means pledging to "do no harm."
In a campaign email from September 2021, Arkoosh lamented Republican parental rights laws, smearing the laws that restrict youth transgender surgeries as "anti-trans." The same email complained that Pennsylvania state legislators have been moving forward with bills that would prevent biological males from competing in women's sports. Arkoosh, one of the "real doctors" Fetterman is using to attack Dr. Oz, calls restricting so-called "gender-affirming" surgery for children and protecting women's sports a "gross violation" of "human rights." She also said Pennsylvanians should be "sounding the alarm bell during this concerning moment in our history."
Now, since losing the primary campaign to Fetterman and joining his group of "real doctors against Dr. Oz" Arkoosh continues to use medicine as a partisan political weapon. At the group's launch on August 10, Arkoosh attacked Oz, accusing him of "making his fortune as a TV scam artist providing reckless medical advice” and hawking “miracle” drugs that are not embraced in the medical community." Sort of how transgender surgery is pushed as a fix-all for kids struggling through the process of growing up. As Townhall has covered repeatedly (see here and here) those who undergo a surgical gender transition can end up regretting the permanent consequences of what they later find were temporary issues.
On Twitter, Arkoosh has pushed the idea that there is discrimination in the medical community against healthcare for transgender individuals, which is a vastly different thing than making transgender surgeries and hormone treatment more readily available to children, their parents be damned.
What's more, the "employment discrimination" Arkoosh laments on Twitter is already illegal under the laws enforced by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. "It is illegal to discriminate against someone (applicant or employee) because of that person's race, color, religion, sex (including gender identity, sexual orientation, and pregnancy), national origin, age (40 or older), disability or genetic information," the EEOC website explains — an inconvenient reality for Arkoosh and her axe-grinding woke gender politics.
But it's no surprise that Fetterman and his campaign are making use of former opponent Arkoosh — her embrace of the left's gender politics line up with his own expressed beliefs on the subject.
During the Pennsylvania Democrats' U.S. Senate primary debate in April, Fetterman was asked whether he supported biological males competing in women's sports at the youth and college level. "Yes," was his simple response. He continued by accusing those who try to protect women's athletics as being on the wrong side of history, saying "we will look back on that as a shameful chapter if we don't immediately stop."
His same opposition to protecting women's sports and female athletes was expressed in Fetterman's response to a bill in West Virginia that barred biological males from competing in women's athletics from middle school through college.
With less than 99 days until November's general election, though, Fetterman's embrace of woke gender ideology is already proving out of step with Keystone State voters, especially mothers.
After the Pennsylvania Department of Education updated a page on its website titled "Gender/Gender Identity," PA moms were less than pleased to see their taxpayer dollars going toward indoctrination rather than education. The site explains "gender-neutral pronouns, such as ne, ve, ze/zie and xe" and urges teachers who "don't know a student's preferred personal pronoun" "to ask."
Going even further, the Pennsylvania education site flatly describes "binary gender" as a "faulty concept that there are only two genders: male and female."
Reporting explains that "Pennsylvania parents are speaking out against the state Department of Education's new gender identity page, which suggests teachers should not make assumptions about students' pronouns." One mother, Megan Eileen, joined Fox News this month to respond to the development. "As a Pennsylvania parent, I’d like to know what qualifies them to call the concept of biological gender 'faulty'?"
Another Pennsylvania mom, Veronica Gemma, said that "this kind of agenda has no place in the American classroom" and declared "parents at the ballot box will speak loudly."
I voted for Barnett. But it is time to rally behind the nominee.

Unfortunately given the positions Dr. Oz has taken on the same issue he isn’t in much of a place to be able to combat and contrast with this message.
That fat boy hasn’t ever had a real job. Living off his family’s money. I like how lazy losers like him have all the answers for the rest of us.
Fetterman is going to handily win this race, anyone telling you otherwise is either utterly ignorant of PA politics, or flat out lying to you.
Oz is as off brand as you can get, he’s an inauthentic fraud who has zero shot at winning state wide here. He is going to underperform horrifically out in the Red parts of this state.. and you can’t win PA statewide without carrying those parts big, and Oz has zero shot at getting the votes and turnout needed there.
I know the flapping headed idiots in their NYC and DC studios have told you all he can win, but as someone who’s lived in this state for nearly 40 years, there is not a chance in hell the turd that is OZ is going to carry PA as a Republican.
If he loses by less than 5 points it will be a miracle for him.
If you wanted a candidate for an urban house district in eastern PA (Philly/NJ border area) that was purple or red, Oz would likely carry it... but statewide? Not a chance in hell.
Do I agree with Fetterman on his politics? Nope, but he’s going to win solidly, and anyone honest with you that actually knows PA is going to tell you the same thing. OZ is a stillborn candidacy.
I demand that all Freepers comply and recognize my gender and use my preferred pronoun.
My gender is MAGA.
My pronoun until I change it again is ‘fvck Fetterman’.
Oz is not as extreme as Fetterman. By November I probably won’t have to hold my nose to vote for Oz. If you can’t vote for Oz, then vote against Fetterman. We have a lifetime of experience in dealing with RINO Senators in PA. Oz is manageable. Fetterman is not manageable.
> Fetterman is going to handily win this race, anyone telling you otherwise is either utterly ignorant of PA politics, or flat out lying to you. <
I gotta agree. Barnett was unpolished. But she was absolutely the candidate to back. Unfortunately Trump, Hannity, etc. decided to go with the Hollywood carpetbagger Oz.
This seat is probably lost. And given how hard it is to oust an incumbent, if Fetterman regains his health he’ll be in the Senate for a long time.
I’m not saying stay home. Oz is better than Fetterman. My point instead is that Trump made a really bad endorsement here. Will he learn from this? I hope so.
If your gender is MAGA, then I ate to break it to you, OZ doesn’t share your gender. Expect him to lose big come November.
LOL !!! I'm stealing that !
Barnett was the MAGA candidate... and once she was a threat you saw what the establishment did to her, with lies and attacks... that tells you all you need to know about the PA GOP right there.
The mounted a more vicious campaign in the last week of the primary to destroy her than they have EVER launched against ANY DEMOCRAT in my entire time living here.
Oz is a Joke.. will play likely above average in the NJ Border/Philly area, and absolutely crater everywhere else... His “Guns are a health care issue” statement alone makes him a non starter to most PA rural voters, let alone his public support of Trandgender Kids and other things... He’s a focus group driven fraud and won’t sell worth a damn out in the rural parts of the state, especially when compared to Fetterman.
Fetterman, like it or not, believes what he says, and has a resume to back it up. Oz, says what he is told by advisors people want to hear, and it doesn’t sell. No quicker way to failure in rural areas than being inauthentic and he’s just flat out inauthentic as hell... utterly off brand, and going to lose handily.
The ONLY way OZ wins is if Biden has damaged the Democratic brand so badly that a ham sandwich would win as long as it has an R by its name. Because voters are going to have to completely ignore the actual candidates completely for Oz to win PA and vote based on something else.
Less than 3 months left until folks vote, we will see then, but I don’t see any way OZ ends even close when its all said and done, even with all the wind at the Republicans backs.
I am fully aware who Oz and Fetterman are. That’s the choice we face. I am not happy about it. But my primary candidate lost. I will not participate in a circular firing squad. I will take shots at Fetterman every chance I get. Note what is absent: I ain’t doing anything to promote Oz. It’s all about attacking Fetterman. My conscience will be clear.
“And there are still FReepers who refer to Uncle Fester’s opponent as “Dr. Azz” and who would give the Pothead votes by writing in Kathy Barnett.
I voted for Barnett. But it is time to rally behind the nominee.

Trump had a name for people like this who use the term Dr. Azz. He said they are “Low IQ People.”
Stop spaming threads.
IS that like the neighbors who have NEVER had a horse & NEVER even ridden a horse calling the county repeatedly over how YOU take care of your HORSES???
“once she was a threat you saw what the establishment did to her.”
Including people we used to trust, Like Hannity. Vile people.
I wish he and his bimbo wife would take their 85 I.Q.s and just go away!
> Barnett was the MAGA candidate... <
Yep. A black woman MAGA senator - wouldn’t that have have been something! Her example might have encouraged other blacks to get off the Democrat plantation.
I’m used to seeing establishment Republicans attack MAGA candidates. But it was disheartening to see Trump and Hannity completely abandon her.
By the way, Oz is starting to run some campaign ads in my neck of the woods. In those ads he looks creepy, even creepier than Fetterman. And that’s saying something.
OZ vs Fetterman is a false choice, and that’s just how the GOP of PA and the establishment like it...
Won’t be part of putting another Toomey/Santorum/Specter into office.... Get them in and stuck with them for 12-18 years, with them playing one way to your face, and acting another way in DC... done with that... I won’t be part of it. Won’t vote for OZ, won’t support OZ, and won’t tell lies to naive folks that OZ has any prayer of winning PA. He doesn’t.
We need the Senate.
“Stop spamming threads.”

He won’t stop spamming. He obviously wants Fetterman to win because of what was done to Kathy. It’s become an obsession.
