AG Merrick Garland asks federal court to unseal search warrant of Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home

Attorney General Merrick Garland revealed Thursday that he “personally approved” requesting the search warrant that triggered Monday’s unprecedented raid on the Florida home of former President Donald Trump and revealed the Justice Department had asked a federal magistrate judge to unseal copies of the warrant — if Trump and his legal team do not object.

“The Department filed the motion to make public the warrant and receipt in light of the former president’s public confirmation with the search, the surrounding circumstances, and the substantial public interest in this matter,” Garland told reporters.

“Faithful adherence to the rule of law is the bedrock principle of the Justice Department and of our democracy, upholding the rule of law means applying the law evenly without fear or favor. under my watch, that is precisely what the Justice Department is doing,” he continued.

Garland, who spoke for four minutes and took no questions, confirmed that copies of the search warrant and FBI property receipt were given to Trump’s attorneys on Monday and added that they were “on site during the search.”

The Attorney General also addressed the recent “unfounded attacks” towards the FBI and Department of Justice in the aftermath of the search, saying he “will not stand by silently when their integrity is unfairly attacked.”

“The men and women of the FBI and the Justice Department are dedicated, patriotic public servants. Every day they protect the American people from violent crime, terrorism and other threats to their safety while safeguarding our civil rights. They do so at great personal sacrifice and risk to themselves. I am honored to work alongside them.”

He seems to be really sensitive to the anti-FBI rhetoric in Post.

*************

He doesn’t give a rat’s ass about anyone criticizing the FBI. That was just thrown in for effect and a dodge.

Not a whole lot of info coming out of the Trump camp. Maybe letting the Dems step all over themselves first. If so, so far so good.

Low level judge approving a high profile action against a former president.

This thing stinks to high heaven.

What he is really saying is that Trump is free to release the warrant. But without the Affidavit, the warrant is next to useless.

Good point. The dissembling has become situation normal in DC.

The White House (not FJB; likely the mulatto-marxist-muslim himeelf who really controls the Democrat/Communist Party) directed that somebody has to take the fall for this political disaster and Garland's their selection to do so ... because the WH will "protect" him ... and nothing's going to happen to this America/American-hating creature anyway.

The list of Trump associates who have been screwed over and abused by the DOJ/FBI is a very long one. I can’t think of a single Democrat who has been treated like this.

She persisted and was finally allowed to see ‘part’ of it.

The rest was still being written, revised and amended until after the raid was over. /sarc

I’m leaning towards this raid being technically legal, but an overreach and political motivated

*************

By any reasonable standard Garland should have recused himself because of an obvious conflict of interest (i.e., his boss’s future and his job could be derailed by the intended target of the raid.) Maybe technically legal, but also technically unethical.

Really, it is just trick parsing of words by a lawyer. Extremely Commonplace when dealing with the Opposition. “Ohhh that, well, you didn’t ask for that”

Technically legal? Until we see the justification in the affidavit, I question the legality. Was the FISA warrant against Carter Page “technically legal”? The DOJ and FBI lie and cheat. We have a track record for them.
