Toward the end, Paul acknowledges the good that the FBI has done. How would an administration rid us of the new Stasi without eliminating the good that Federal law enforcement can do?
Ron Paul was right. Thanks for posting the video.
Wasn’t the FBI started from the group called Pinkerton under Alan Pinkerton hired by Lincoln to spy on Confederates?
I don’t think so. The FBI was formed in 1908.
It not a matter of the good that the FBI does. The same good can be achieved at the state level. That’s the way it was done prior to the FBI. Either we believe in federalism or not. Federalism with a bias to local government is a core conservative principle.
Reforming the FBI will in my opinion require decentralizing it. Put more authority into the field offices build offices and reduce the headquarters to a support function with no actual authority over the field offices.
The next thing to do is to require that all federal warrants have to have concurring approval from judges in the jurisdiction where they are executed. The FBI clearly needs this kind of accountability and oversight.
Do we still need a federal police force to bust rum runners?
Back in the days of Bonnie and Clyde, gangsters would skip around to different States, knowing that as soon as they crossed the border they’d get away. So the FBI was born. Now there are on time communications between law enforcement agencies so different jurisdictions can chase the bad guys. So local agencies can do all that good.
I went to the Draw Mohammed Cartoon contest. We found out that, not only did the FBI instigate the terrorists, they followed them to Garland, AND NEVER TOLD LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT. If it weren’t for the good shooting of a security cop, some of us could have been killed, which may have been what the FBI wanted. The local LEOs had everything under control, then the FBI took over and redid everything, and the locals weren’t happy.
Ron Paul is a prophet. I used to roll my eyes at him. Not any more.
He’s right at least 90% of the time. Same with Rand.
No. I believe the Pinkertons were the fore runner of the Secret Service.
I was basically the same way. While I agreed with a lot of what he said, I bought into the memes that he was unusual and unelectable at the national level. I hope I have grown in my thinking since then and I am more open to people and ideas. (With a bit of suspicion. No one gets a free ride.)
