In this case, Uncle Joe preserves a woman's "right to an abortion" - one of the Left's traditional sacraments. I.e., it is a way for them to underscore that the individual is unimportant, that the class is all important.

Protecting LGBTQI+ and obstructing "conversion therapy" is another example of disregarding individual's importance and supporting a class.
