They probably know there is some document in contention. They are using that as a fishing expedition. If they find nothing else especially what they want Jan 6 info, they will say we got this blah blah. Meanwhile finding nothing in the safe is a great point in trumps defense because where would he store documents he k ew were wrongly held, in the safe. Lastly they brought a safe cracker with them. So they knew he had the safe installed recently. Where they get that. Do they have a wire on him? If they do they all need be hanged.
