Russia Is Readying the Zinc Coffins Again: U.S. officials believe Russia is facing its toughest fight since World War II.

The U.S. Defense Department believes that as many as 80,000 Russian troops have been killed or wounded since the Kremlin’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine less than six months ago, a top Pentagon official told reporters today...

The United States has now provided nearly $10 billion in military aid to Ukraine since Russia’s full-scale invasion, nearly twice Kyiv’s military budget in 2021...

The Pentagon initially estimated that Russia deployed about 120 battalion tactical groups, the Kremlin’s go-to combined arms unit, for the war—numbering around 100,000 troops. Experts said the new casualty estimate is likely to include Russian paramilitary and volunteer forces, such as the mercenary Wagner Group, some units of which have been redeployed from posts in Libya, Syria, and the Central African Republic to fight on the front lines in the Donbas region...

U.S. officials believe that Russian President Vladimir Putin is reluctant to order a general mobilization that would allow the Kremlin to recruit from the population at large... Russia has succeeded in recruiting enough volunteers to continue the conflict through a shadow mobilization drive by relying more heavily on the Wagner Group, volunteer units, and reservists that signed contracts under a revamped system.

The most casualties for Russia since WWII.

Running an average of more than 10,000 per month (Killed or Wounded).

That number likely includes foreign mercenaries and those drafted in occupied areas like Luhansk and Donetsk.

Weapons and personnel which had been supporting Russia's overseas interests and allies around the world, are now all being sucked into the meatgrinder of the Ukraine war, and destroyed.

U.S. officials believe Russia is facing its toughest fight since World War II.

Which, as I recall, they won.

What does zinc coffins mean? Is that something peculiar to Russian or Soviet culture?

The US had over 86,000 casualties in Vietnam in 1967. So the Russians aren’t doing that much worse against a much better armed and supplied force.

Foreign Policy=Deep State

It’s not reliable. About as good a source as Pravda.

Need independent confirmation.

A relatively plentiful metal in the Soviet Union and one that doesn’t rust.

In other news, the defence department believes men can give birth and free speech is domestic terrorism.

Crazy. The Soviet Union didn’t take this many casualties in the ‘80s in Afghanistan and they had the twice the population of modern day Russia.

“What does zinc coffins mean? Is that something peculiar to Russian or Soviet culture?”

Zinc resists corrosion - it what makes “Galvanized” metal.

Zinc lined coffins are often specified for transporting bodies Internationally, and often specified for Military use.

During the Soviet Union’s war in Afghanistan, those standard Military zinc coated coffins became emblematic of the human cost of war, captured in the title of a book about it, titled Boys in Zinc, by Svetlana Alexievich.

Would be amusing if Kim sends men. Dangerous, though, if he sends useful people, i.e. his elite. Who’s gonna protect the regime from its starving malcontents?

I remember so clear the fantasies, peddled by a rotating fresh faced crop of generals, over and over again lying their tails off about every conceivable matter regarding Afghanistan. Anyone believing one syllable from this lying trash is beyond help. Nothing has changed, just the day of the week and the lie.
