I’ve seen plenty of times that former presidents Carter, Ford and Nixon were called in front of cameras to comment on the issues of the day, and there were no Secret Service around them. Ford was a senior partner in a white shoe law firm, Nixon I think was a solo practitioner, and Carter was flitting around the globe building houses for indigents. All very demanding, and no secret service agents to be seen.
