I think you’re mischaracterizing what is happening here. You start by aggregating a lot of things into a group of issues that simply don’t belong together. Conservatives have “surrendered” on things like school prayer and gay marriage not because they’ve accepted them, but because they’ve lost all faith in their government.

This is why things like vaccine mandates and gun control don’t belong on your list. A real conservative may not give a sh!t about crappy government schools* and the lunacy that passes for marriage laws in this country, but when it comes to personal protection and liberty we will often make a stand.

* Full disclosure: If a government school in many U.S. jurisdictions was burning to the ground, I’d barely be motivated to pick up my phone and call 911.

Prayer does not belong in a government school.

Let me put it this way: Do your want your children to be led through Muslim prayer while at school? How about a Buddhist prayer? Do you want a government school divided into a number of worship centers for each faith and denomination? Shall money be taken from educational needs in order to establish those chapels? How will appropriate teachers be selected for each faith? Will they even be available in all places?

Here is another gem of wisdom: You probably detest what teachers are placing before the class; yet, you want those very same propagandists to handle your children's worship? What are you thinking?

I am a Lutheran. I would refuse to allow my children to be led in religious activities by Catholics, Presbyterians, Methodists, Episcopalians, Mormons, or even ELCA-want-to-be Lutherans.

I didn't encounter school led worship until I moved to the South in 1962. I was appalled at the mockery students made of "worship time" during the so-called services. I also didn't appreciate the Southern Baptist slant put on the teachings. I was so very happy when this was removed from the schools.
