China's Hainan, an island province dependent on tourism, locked down more areas on Monday (Aug 8), Reuters calculations based on state media reports show, as it battles its worst COVID-19 outbreak after seeing very few cases over the past two years.
The island in the South China Sea, which recorded just two local symptomatic COVID-19 cases last year, has reported more than 1,400 domestically transmitted infections this month, including 982 symptomatic ones. Although that is small by global standards, it is the province's biggest outbreak since the virus was first reported in the central Chinese city of Wuhan in late 2019.
The sharp increase in cases comes amid a pick-up in interest in tourism after China slightly eased curbs aimed at domestic travel, accounting for the shorter incubation period of the Omicron variant, which facilitates a shorter quarantine time.

In 2012, China had 19 million births. Last year, it was 10 million births. Quite a steep drop. There will be no one to support their aging population.

To put the best construction on this:
1) The ChiCom subjects don’t “test” until they are really sick.
2) The ChiCom subjects are subjected to a far more specific and accurate test than the junk they peddle globally.
Socialism always ends up becoming violent when they have run out of time. Their actions my be indicating this.

August in Hainan is brutal; very hot and VERY humid like nowhere else in China.
Never been there but this is what I was told by an ex-Chinese Hainanian(?) who was then a Singapore citizen.

On April 1, 2001, a Chinese air force jet collided with a US Navy EP-3 Aries in international airspace with 24 crewmen aboard and was forced to land on Hainan Island and were detained for tens days. I’m fortunate to be acquainted with one of these brave aircrew. The Chinese pilot responsible for the collision presumably died. The point of this discussion is I don’t really care anything about either the island or its inhabitants.
