The result is landscape littered with “news silos,” each appealing to its chosen market segment. The social and political effects are far-reaching. As news consumers, we have more options than ever (good), but we are increasingly insulated from opposing views (bad).

the corollary to this is that it also increases the focus on national news and "what the center is doing."

I have no love for the woke editors at our local newspaper, and I refuse to pay for it. But its also the only source of local news that exists in our city. the local TV news is completely useless.

In my region the TV news has far better and timelier reporting than the Gannett/USA Today affiliates.

The gloom the author foresees due to “news silos” is way overstated. In the military I was stationed in a Scandinavian country. They had 3 or 4 newspapers. Each one corresponded to a political party and filtered everything through that party’s viewpoint. I think it is still pretty much that way in a lot of European countries today.
