It would be an understatement to say that Elon Musk, the richest man in the world, is very interested in Russia's war in Ukraine.
NATO countries and experts see this war as a battle for democracy.
Musk Sides with Ukraine
"We cannot let Putin take over Ukraine. This is crazy," the Chief Executive Officer of the premium EV maker said in March during an interview with Mathias Döpfner, the CEO of Business Insider's parent company, Axel Springer.
During the same interview, the tech tycoon explained that someone of his rank had a responsibility and should therefore use the power and influence that is his to influence the conduct of world affairs. Musk has more than 102.4 million followers on Twitter and runs several companies (Tesla, SpaceX, The Boring Company, Neuralink).
"I think I can be helpful in conflicts," Musk said. "I do whatever I think is most likely to ensure that the future is good for humanity. Those are the actions that I will take."
Among the actions taken by Musk since the start of the conflict, there is one that has particularly irritated Russia. The serial entrepreneur decided to provide Starlink antennas, the satellite internet access service of his other company SpaceX, to Ukraine when the country's telecommunications infrastructure had been largely destroyed by Russian bombings.
Starlink guarantees secure Internet access and thus appeared as a response to the Russian communication machine around this war because Ukrainians could communicate freely with the outside world and give their version of events.
The entrepreneur also went so far as to propose a duel to Putin, in an attempt to end the war. This proposal had earned him threats on his life from the Russian president's loyalists. Putin never responded to the offer.

It's like one of those board games. You only have so many pieces you can have and play. Do you want armies to squander one the Eurasian land mass where you are a logistics "disadvantage" [it's a bloody effin nightmare] or do you want maritime forces, ships, submarines, aircraft and intermediate range missiles to protect and keep open you sea lines of communications, which is easy for a maritime power like the US. Also you get to trade with your allies and reinforce your alliances and keep your own borders secure because the Atlantic and Pacific are your borders. See how easy it is if you open your eyes and look.
IIt's not a choice between isolationism or globalism. It's really between being a maritime power or a land power on the other side of a hell that you can't get to.
I have no clue what to do about Ukraine vs Russia. But Russia’s invasion of Ukraine is unacceptable.
No. Next move. Not my problem. I chose to be a maritime power and not a world’s policeman. If my true allies ask for help we can talk. But I am building an Navy and an Air Force and a Space Force for the maritime task so I can deal with China.
I do know what to do about Ukraine. Go back in time a dozen years and then decide to leave Ukraine as neutral, not invite them into NATO or try to train their military, and not provoke Russia while I built up my maritime forces to keep my own borders secure and deal with China. In other words, not get into the mess that those blind to the meaning of a map got us into.
What is the long game?
Trump was right about Elon.
I dunno. Just play chess or better Go instead of chutes and ladders or Candyland.
They are free to return to the Marquesas Islands.
Who took Kauai by force?
NATO was an excuse. If it weren’t then Russia would have attacked Lithuania, Estonia and Latvia when the joined NATO.
Russia wants Odessa.
LOL
You ain’t as smart as you think you are.
Rockets and allied technologies are the most strategically vital tech ever conceived. There is absolutely nothing more important, both economically and militarily, than holding the “high ground”. Musk has taken that high ground for the US by making spaceflight on an unprecedented scale available. The man has launched over 3000 satellites, more than any nation ever, just as a private venture. This means that, given funding, the US can spam satellites whenever it wants to. Nobody else on earth can do that even if they could come up with the resources.
I have been in the aerospace industry, in my earlier career. I was there on factory floors when we were all doing it sort of on a medieval guild basis. I guess you have to have been in that to understand just how massive this is. I have old contacts and new in there, thats how I have been invited at various times to the SpaceX production facilities. Their ambitions are titanic, on both the rocket launch and telecom fronts.
Musk is a world-historical figure even now. You need to get your mind around that.
Totally agree: “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” Romans 3:23
Ukraine? What about the autonomous republics of Donetsk and Luhansk?
Every invasion is brutal
Positively Reagan-esque , what with the whole “not provoking Russia” thing. Bravo.
“The entrepreneur also went so far as to propose a duel to Putin, in an attempt to end the war.”
Gutsy.
Ukraine was never in NATO and wasn’t even close to joining. Russia wants Odessa.
Always promoting something.
Change the subject much?
One war at a time, please.
Zelenksy imprisons opposition leaders, has banned opposing parties and shutdown opposition media. The SBU terrorizes dissents. Ukrainian nationalists and neo-Nazis have persecuted and killed ethnic Russians for eight years. Corrupt oligarchs screw over the populace by working with our corrupt political class.
There is no democracy to save in Ukraine. Those in eastern Ukraine will be far, far better off under Russian rule.
