Elon Musk Sounds the Alarm on Russia-Ukraine War
The Street ^ | Aug 30, 2022 | Luc Olinga

It would be an understatement to say that Elon Musk, the richest man in the world, is very interested in Russia's war in Ukraine.

NATO countries and experts see this war as a battle for democracy.

Musk Sides with Ukraine

"We cannot let Putin take over Ukraine. This is crazy," the Chief Executive Officer of the premium EV maker said in March during an interview with Mathias Döpfner, the CEO of Business Insider's parent company, Axel Springer.

During the same interview, the tech tycoon explained that someone of his rank had a responsibility and should therefore use the power and influence that is his to influence the conduct of world affairs. Musk has more than 102.4 million followers on Twitter and runs several companies (Tesla, SpaceX, The Boring Company, Neuralink).

"I think I can be helpful in conflicts," Musk said. "I do whatever I think is most likely to ensure that the future is good for humanity. Those are the actions that I will take."

Among the actions taken by Musk since the start of the conflict, there is one that has particularly irritated Russia. The serial entrepreneur decided to provide Starlink antennas, the satellite internet access service of his other company SpaceX, to Ukraine when the country's telecommunications infrastructure had been largely destroyed by Russian bombings.

Starlink guarantees secure Internet access and thus appeared as a response to the Russian communication machine around this war because Ukrainians could communicate freely with the outside world and give their version of events.

The entrepreneur also went so far as to propose a duel to Putin, in an attempt to end the war. This proposal had earned him threats on his life from the Russian president's loyalists. Putin never responded to the offer.

No. So let's play a war game. You are the US. I am China. You want to save the Ukraine from Russia.

Your move.

Ok. You are a really smart non-isolationist. You suggest the next move to save the Ukraine from Russia. I will play China. Ready, set, go...

He should concentrate on China, not Russia.
Can't do that. Aren't they (one sided) "trading partners"?

You want to save Ukraine. It’s getting smashed by Russian artillery that obliterates everything in it’s path. Your move...

So, it’s okay for Russia to brutally invade a country?

No, but we are not the world's policeman. We certainly put up with Brezhnev etc. running half of Europe including Ukraine for decades not because we liked the idea, but because a military response would make things worse. It is not a matter of "letting" Putin take Ukraine (or more likely PART of Ukraine), any more than it was a matter of "letting" Idi Amin take Uganda, or brutal Communists take over Hong Kong, or letting 800,000 Hutus and Tutsis slaughter each other in Rwanda.

Heck, we can't even set Afghanistan on a better trajectory after 20 years.

I am saying what happens when Russia feels more expansionary, I.e. Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia? Why does Finland and Sweden want to join NATO?

Takes people quite some time to even figure out Afghanistan.

Ukraine is all about saving a penis flopping piano player.

How dare you bring rare earth minerals into it.

I thought that Commies in Nicaragua were unacceptable, and we helped the Contras a little bit, but the solution there was ultimately political (even so, Ortega still wound up back in power).

We wind up “accepting” a lot of things that are unacceptable, because there is no alternative. Red China being a dominant trading partner is unacceptable. Germany funding Russia while complaining about the invasion (and doing nothing on their end) is unacceptable.

If we are are not willing to declare war, and we shouldn’t be, there is a risk that we will wind up accepting the unacceptable, but only after $40 billion and who knows what else.

We are talking Ukraine here. Musk called for saving Ukraine.

In terms of geo-strategy Baltic States or North Sea states are natural allies because they are maritime trading partners. We can reach them and supply them by sea. that is easy. Crossing Europe to fight on the Eurasian plains is a fools errand.

But the CHinese are hoping we fall for the globalist swindle, get bogged down trying to save the Ukraine while they take Taiwan and threaten evereyone else in the region who we can't do much about because we got bogged down in another impossible to get to place like we did in Afghanistan and before that what was it Bush Cheney did.

That's what geopolitics is about. Understand where you have strategic advantages because of geography and where you are at a deficit.

LOL, I bet you felt differently about invading Afghanistan in October, 2001.

I bet you had no problem about US vs Iraq in January 1991.
