Both Republican and Democratic voters are telling pollsters that they want a politician to fight for them — fight against the other side, for the most part. Being a “strong leader” is now being defined as how cutting your attacks against your opponents are.
Ron DeSantis went after the Walt Disney Company, much to the delight of the Republican right. He has also taken on the education establishment in a big way, causing much angst among teachers and their radical supporters.
This has elevated him to the number one choice of Republicans for president in 2024 if Donald Trump doesn’t run. Conservatives like a fighter, and DeSantis gives them that in spades.
The Democrats are dealing with the dilemma of a failing president who has exhibited signs of dementia and whose energy — and perhaps his heart — isn’t in the battle. There’s no shortage of Democrats who want to replace him in 2024. The question is, who has the moxie to go toe-to-toe with Trump — or DeSantis?
In recent weeks, California Governor Gavin Newsom has shown Democrats that he may be the guy who can carry the fight to Republicans. He’s been downright nasty to DeSantis and, with the end of Roe, he’s been proclaiming California an abortion sanctuary against the “hate” of anti-abortion states.
And Newsom is putting his money where his mouth is — $1.65 billion to draw film and TV productions from anti-abortion states.
If the bill passes, it will provide $1.65 billion, or $330 million annually, in tax credits to the film and TV industry, as well as other media productions. The initial bill was set to expire in 2025 before Newsom’s proposed extension.

We’re about to celebrate Independence Day — but Freedom is under attack by Republican leaders in states like Florida.
Banning books.
Restricting speech.
Making it harder to vote.
Criminalizing women and doctors.
It’s time to stand up. Don’t let them take your freedom. pic.twitter.com/cFI5UzgZzX— Gavin Newsom (@GavinNewsom) July 3, 2022
It’s interesting that the governor of the state that’s the home of cancel culture would be criticizing any state for a lack of freedom.
“Today more than ever, you have a responsibility to take stock of your values — and those of your employees — when doing business in those states,” Newsom wrote.
I’ve been saying for a while hairdo is going to run in 2024.
The governorship was a stepping stone for him.
And Pelosi will be his biggest supporter.
He’s sniffing peoples’ hair now and reading teleprompter instructions out loud?
California Governor Gavin Newsom - the candidate for idiots who want to live in a homeless, drug addicted hellhole... but don’t have the money or energy to move to California...
Let him run. His style isn’t going to play outside of California so at worst it’s going to be a few million dollars of Democrat money wasted.
As a San Francisco resident, it’s hard for me to wrap my head around the idea of our dumb-as-dirt pretty-boy ex-mayor as POTUS. Hard to imagine “middle America” wanting a Justin Trudeau type as commander in chief. And it’s not impossible that he might pull it off. The Getty money and his bona fides among California’s liberal-left elite have taken him a long way already, so, sadly, I can’t say that the White House is unthinkable.
To be approved as an appointed VP, the candidate would need a majority of votes in both Houses. Pelosi can give Newsome the House, but that would have to occur before January 2023.
Newsome would then be favored to be the nominee in '24, as we know it will not be Harris.
Another term for Joe is beyond unlikely (although the "second term" deceit oddly persists.)
For low info voters, a youthful appearance, a toothy smile, free stuff on top of free stuff, and some scary soundbites about GOPers is all it takes.
That's what we're up against, and that's one reason why our candidate needs to be, at least somewhat, telegenic.
No doubt in my mind that he is running. Also he seems to support all of Joe Biden’s policies.
The war in ‘24 is against CA.
Showing America what they have done to that fine state is the plan.
Too bad the GOP-e will never do it.
Trump and that other guy from FL might have the guts.
I thought Gov. Hair do was going to run with Gov. Grab-ass in 2020
Yeah. But liberals are liberal idiots, they wanted Kamala Harris despite knowing she's an idiot do-nothing politician without charm. Gavin Newsom is worse, being that he's an idiot do-nothing politician but has charm. The guy was a loser as SF Mayor, always wanting cameras on his face while he accomplished nothing while others ran the city. Same for every job on his way up to governor. Accomplished nothing but ruinous policies for California. Enjoys life at his winery and Auntie Pelosi's vineyard, comes out only for the cameras.
He’ll get CA’s and NY’s EVs for sure. Maybe CA could secede and he could be President of CA. What a paradise it would be!
I don’t understand his appeal at all, except he might be Hollywood’s idea of what a president looks like. From what I hear about California’s government, it is the exact opposite of what good government should be. It is authortarian. It makes problems worse. It creates new problems. If he runs, he needs to be made to own that. If Californians like him, they can have him. We have already suffered enough from California politicians at the federal level.
America’s Justin Trudeau
“I’ve been saying for a while hairdo is going to run in 2024.”
He’ll win the women’s vote for being the “cutest!”
Yo gav !!!
‘case ya haven’t noticed ,,,
(which validates your cluelessness)
EVERYONE HATES CALIFORNIA !!!
and cuz of you and your ilk , even most Californians HATE you and California. We’re just too poor under you and sloppy Joe to escape the he’ll hole you and your ilk has created.
What on earth makes you think this country will elect you president ?
Dominion ?
.
He’s another Gary Hart or John Edwards, neither fared too well. He’s our version of Justin Trudeau
