The Chinese blockade of Taiwan may have already begun

In the wake of Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan, the Chinese have taken unprecedented steps. Wednesday the Chinese military continued a series of massive exercises in the vicinity of Taiwan. Ominously, these exercises specifically included what Chinese state media called “joint blockade training.” That specific phraseology is clearly a deliberate reference to long-standing planning for a naval and air blockade of Taiwan to cut it off from the rest of the world.

China also announced that it will fire missiles directly over Taiwan and that the “median line” which marks the boundary of Taiwan’s territorial waters “will cease to exist”.

More, from the China Global Times:

“From the designated PLA military drills area, the operations could pose a threat to major ports and shipping lanes in Taiwan, forming a complete blockage. This blockage style could be one of the action plans taken in the future for achieving the reunification by force, Herman Shuai, a retired Taiwan lieutenant general, told the Global Times on Wednesday.”

“Two northern exercise areas designated by the PLA are located off the coast of Keelung Port and Taipei Port, the central exercise area is located off the Taichung Port, the southern exercise area is located off the Kaohsiung Port and the eastern one is located off the Hualien Port. The exercise areas are a "template" for "locking down Taiwan,If the PLA exercises take a long time, it will constitute a substantial blockage of Taiwan."

There's the response to Pelosi. Biden's handlers had to know all this, I'm sure it was explained during that 2.5 hour phone call prior to Pelosi's trip.

Pelosi & the Democrats have really done it now. Is the WH distancing themselves from the rogue Speaker?

Be interesting if the Taiwanese could turn China’s inherent paranoia against them.

“And threat to awaken all of their spy/ clandestine ops teams in china.”

Do enough to get the commies all wound up, and see if it could turn into a civil war. Get Hong Kong to join taiwan and others, Uighars, non Han etc..

Get the commie to crack down so hard on their own people that open revolt starts.

Who needs semiconductors? We can get along just fine without semiconductors. /s

If this blockade happens, the world economy will grind to a halt. Imagine no spare electronic parts for control systems in farm equipment, food processing equipment, aircraft, locomotives, power plants, refineries, gasoline pumps, water processing plants, sewage plants, cars, trucks, air traffic control, etc.

This is clearly no surprise.

Just in time. Xiden, Pelosi, Blinken, and company will now have the next crises to distract from the massive beating they/we are taking in the Ukraine proxy war with the Ruskies (Donbas collapse).

The problem is, this one will likely not be "proxy" when the US sends over warships to break the blockade. Also, don't forget the high likelihood of economic sanctions against Taiwan from China.

Big trouble brewing.

Way to go Brandon!

And the US, UNAIDED, could just as easily implement a blockade of China, denying it all sea imports/exports...including 70% of their energy/oil/gas.

If this blockade happens...

So, what will the Communist Chinese do if a U.S. warship, or a Japanese warship should chose to pay a port call on Taiwan? Will they fire?

Actually, if China declares a ‘blockade’ aren’t they acknowledging that Taiwan is sovereign? If as they claim, Taiwan is really theirs, wouldn’t they just declare its ports and airspace closed to all traffic.

Lincoln was careful during the Civil War to never acknowledge the sovereignty of the C.S.A. by declaring war on them, but rather declaring the South in rebellion against the Federal government.

You're nuts.

Oh sure. It's real easy. Easy like......

-winning in Ukraine
-winning in Afghanistann
-winning in Libya
-winning in Syria
-winning in Iraq
-winning in Vietnam

If you think it's easy, then just send your family members over to do just that. I'm sure that will work out well and fix that little problem.

Could we?

The Navy’s Big Carrier Groups Are Sitting Ducks

Can the top brass admit how much we have spent on fleets that are now obsolete?

April 14, 2022 4:55 pm ET

Your editorial “The Shrinking U.S. Navy” (April 5) focuses on the number of ships that the U.S. Navy is commissioning and retiring rather than their capability. The inconvenient truth is that our Navy has 12 carrier groups and all are now obsolete. The Chinese have developed an antiship ballistic missile (ASBM), the DF-21D, nicknamed the “carrier killer.” It has a range of 1,200 miles and can fly at speeds higher than Mach 5. During descent to the target, it can fly at Mach 10. That’s like launching one in Chicago and hitting the Statue of Liberty three minutes later.

We have no missile-defense systems that can counter the DF-21D. The Navy has a ballistic-missile-defense system, but the problem is it doesn’t work. Last year the Navy performed a test in which it tried to intercept two ASBMs. It couldn’t hit either one. This was a planned test—the Navy knew when the missiles were coming, from what direction and how many. Imagine a surprise attack on a carrier with 20 missiles incoming at the same time.
