WASHINGTON — United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres urged governments on Wednesday to tax excessive oil and gas profits as the world grapples with an energy crisis triggered in part, by Rusisa’s war in Ukraine.
“It is immoral for oil and gas companies to be making record profits from this energy crisis on the backs of the poorest people and communities,” Guterres said in a speech before the international forum

Oil companies make more when oil rises in price, but less when oil falls in price.
Oil bought at say $120/barrel might get sold in refined form as if it only cost $110/barrel.
The more an oil company stores, the more money it stands to make or lose.
The price of gasoline has recently slowly been dropping two cents or more at a time.
Think of all the jet fuel they would save staying in europe rather than trucking it over to nyc...
At least Guterres didn’t mention shooting profiteers or capitalists in general. But maybe that will come later.
How about un-tax the stuff and see what happens?
How about allow oil companies to drill where the oil is?
How about permitting a new refinery or two?
How about that Keystone Pipeline?
